Default Question: BEV 6100 or 9200 please help

After over a year of owning a great HDTV, yet still watching SD, I'm finally ready to purchase a new Expressvu receiver (and dish?). I'm aware of the rental situation and the lack of respect that Bell shows it's existing customers, so I've decided to go the eBay route and buy rather than be told to rent. MY QUESTION IS... is the 6100 receiver the right choice? We have only 1 TV in the house, and I don't really need the PVR features so I figure the 9200PVR is a little unessesary for us right now. Will I need a new dish as well? Or can I we simply plug and play? Will a different cable be required to run from the dish into the house in order to carry HD content? Is the install easy for an idiot, or would a pro install be required? Any help with this please...

If your hi def TV is 720p, get the 9200. The 9200 does a better job downconverting 1080i signals (from PBS, CBS and NBC) to 720p. Therefore the 9200 will produce a sharper picture from PBS, CBS and NBC than will the 6100. If your TV is 1080i or 1080p, then I don't know which Bell to get considering pix quality alone.

the difference in pq between the 9200 and the 6100 when converting from 1080i to 720p is very slight. judging by ur info i think u would be happy with the 6100 and save the cash.

My TV is a Hitachi 42V515 rear projection LCD. The manual says compatible with 1018i, 720p, 480p, 480i input signals. Thanks for your help. Any advice on the install? are new cables and a newer dish required? We currently have a 2700.

ur 2700 would use an 18" dish but the 6100 uses a 20". the 9200 comes with one set of component cables and a short hdmi-dvi converter cable.

On my TV, 50 inch Panasonic DLP, the difference was not slight. Had a TV serviceman over to fix a noisy fan and he was amazed at how bad the 6100 was at converting 1080i to 720p compared to using the TV's own downconverter. And the Bell 9200 is, if anything, even better than the downconverter in the TV.

Interesting. Let me get this straight. You had a 6100 and changed to a 9200 and noticed a significant increase in PQ from 1080i signals? Was it just a problem with the 6100 or did the tech say they were all like that?
I've got a 6100 and a 1080p set, so I'm wondering if there's any benefit to getting a 9200 for better PQ.

Hi,
The other thing you need to know CMartin is that oyu would need two feeds into the 9200 - it REQUIRES (will not work without) two coax feeds, so you need two lines to the PVR to make it work...Save your money - I bought the 9200, and did not want to re-wire, so brought it back and got a 6200 which works just fine!

Yes, the 9200 did a clearly better job than the 6100 converting 1080i to 720p. My TV is native 720P. The tech came to fix my TV fan, not the 6100. I mention the tech because I demoed for him the superiority of my TV's downconversion over the 6100 downconversion. He was sufficiently impressed that he said he would go back to his shop and experiment with different hardware for downconversion. He had not previously seen such a difference due to hardware. The downconversion for the 9200, if anything, is even better than that of my TV.
