Default SA8000HD pulls some quirky stuff.

Hi,
I recorded the new Medical HD show the other nite and the center channel (dialogue) was missing. Anyone else have weird occurances.
Most of the time it works great. Perfect for recording west coast feeds of shows past my bedtime.

Peter m.
PS: Sometimes the box is a bit noisey so I put a heavy book on top of it.

I had a noisy PVR and did the same trick - the drive fried after a couple of months, fortunately still on warranty. The new one is quieter.

Hi,
At this stage of the SA PVR's life I'm only prepared to rent (if possible) until the bugs are fixed and they provide us with a larger Hard Drive for HD programming.

Remember, the amount of HD is going up not down so you will want lots of rooom.

In their first week, the NBCHD new programs, Vegas, LAX and Medical Investigation experienced audio dropouts for the Center Speaker channel. Now they switched from DD5.1 to DD2.0

The above had nothing to do with your DVR or your provider.

Default Sa8000hdpvr

We had some major problems with our first HDPVR it worked great for the first 2 weeks then the unit would reset in
the middle of a recorded program playback. then a few days later we started to get what looks like Christmas lights accross the whole screen.
We replaced the box on the weekend and the new unit has better picture quality then the first unit. but be a later revision unit.

Default roberth...

It would be nice to know where you are from, the name of your cable provider and whether your SA8000HD has SARA or Passport software.

At the DVR (not the remote) press and hold the Select button until the e-mail light comes up. Then press the "Info" button and the first programming page comes up. In the case of SARA programming, the version details are on page 17 of 22. To change page, press the "+ page" key on your remote.

In my case they are as follows:

General Settings under SARA programming

Programming Versions (page 17)

ROM 1.83.4.2
OS 6.4.7.1
SARA 1.83.4.2
PowerKey LIB 3.5.21.0
HAL2 Driver 1.1.8.140
ATI Driver 2.0.50.0
PHAL3 Driver 3.5.7.3
HTNL Engine 2.1.1.3

The General settings (press the "Settings" button twice on the remote) =

Audio: Digital Out
Audio: Range
Audi: Volume Ctrl
Block: Channels
Block: PIN
Block: Rating
Block: Time New
Block Time 1
CC: Background
CC: Characters
CC: Options
CC: Source
Display: Power Off
Display: Power On
Language: Audio
Language: Keyboard
Language: Screen
Purchase: PIN
PPV: Purchases
SET: A-C Outlet
SET: Color Scheme
SET: TV Borders
Timer: All
Timer: Remind New
Timer: Sleep
Timer: Turn Off
Timer: Wake-Up
Viewer: Favorites
Viewer: Power On

Not anything you can do. Rogers, as your provider, gets authorized software updates from Scientific Atlanta. Rogers do the update when ready.

There might be as many software versions as there are cable providers and operators. Scientific Atlanta decides who gets what.
