Default HDMI Not Working - No Signal

Hey All,

I think this is a problem with my dvd player but I'll let you all be the judge. If there is anything I am missing in my tests please let me know, but here is what I've tried so far.

I've tested my DVD player using 3 different HDMI cables. 2 on the same TV and 1 on another TV. On the TV I tried using 2 cables I've used the red white and yellow cables successfully. I've tried jiggling the cables around a little. I've tried turning on and off the dvd and tv in different orders. My TV is also set correctly to mode HDMI 1. I've also tried in the HDMI 2 slot unsuccessfully. On the other TV, which has another working HDMI player working succesfully, I just swapped my dvd player for that one and I still get no signal.

I just recently moved and previously had everything working fine for two years. At my new place, when I first started hooking everything up it took a little work. It seemed my DVD player was very sensitive to the position it was in, but finally I got it all hooked back up. Then my girlfriend wanted to watch a movie in the basement so I carried my DVD player and cables downstairs and was unable to get everything working correctly there. Meanwhile a disc got stuck in the DVD player and I had to shake it lightly upside down to free the disc. Since this I've been unable to get any HDMI signal with any TV or any cable. Is my DVD player screwed?

Thanks,
John

I've also tried completely unplugging everything and starting over. My TV actually says "Not Supported Mode" instead of No Signal. Not sure why I just noticed this now. But still the DVD player does not work on a TV with a different working dvd player with HDMI.

Ok sorry to keep replying to my own post. The Mode Not Supported message has disappeared when I went back to using the HDMI 1 slot and TV setting. Now I'm just receiving the "No Signal" message again.

Okay viola. I brought up the other DVD player upstairs to my room and plugged it into my TV using the same HDMI cable and it's working fine. The problem definitely lies in my DVD player. It's just kind of weird that I can get it to work with other cables but not the HDMI ones. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue or do I need a new dvd player?

What is the make and model of the DVD player? Have you contacted them for assistance?

Thanks for the reply.

The DVD Player is a DVP - NC85H. It came with an AV receiver and speakers, but I'm not currently using them. Just trying to get the bare bones working first.

As far as contacting Sony, I haven't tried that yet. I doubt I'm still under warranty and I'm not sure of the charges I would have to face. Thought I would try to get some free help first. I'm just a young whipper snapper.

Thanks,
John
