Default Advice on hooking computer to Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver

We are attempting to send the computer image and sound to the Panasonic HDTV via an HDMI cable. We have it hooked to HDMI IN 2 (labeled assignable and VCR/DVR) and the video / screen displays great, but sound comes out of the computer audio speakers rather than out of the speakers connected to our receiver -- the Onkyo TX-SR606.

Does anyone have any hints to what we might need to do to get the audio through the receiver? Or, if this is in the wrong forum, can you please point me to the right one?

Thanks!

You need to connect sound to the receiver. Depending on your sound card, it would be either a optical digital (Toslink), coaxial digital or analog (stereo mini) connection on the computer with a wire connected to an input on the receiver.

Default HDMI alone is enough (if your pc is setup right)

Loves2watch may be giving you an easy answer; but you should be able to do it with HDMI alone (this is exactly the setup I have). I suggest you first try to go into the sound options in your operating system and see if you can direct the sound to line out instead of pc speakers (i.e. turn off the pc speakers at least). If that doesn't work you probably need to figure out how to direct sound through your graphics card (assuming that's where the HDMI out port is). That might be an option in your graphics card's driver control panel (usually a separate entry in your control panel or under 'advanced' options in your display controller).

It depends on the video card as many do not have the audio option.
