Default connecting 2 HDTVs & 2 Surround Sound to 1 HD cable set top box

Hello All, I just joined and this is my first post.

I would like to connect to HDTVs and surround sound systems to one source.

In my living room I have a Sony LCD projection HDTV connected to Timer Warner Cable in Hawaii Via an HSTB by Scientific Atlanta. The TV can accept DVI but does not have HDMI. Right now its connected to the HTSB by Ypr cable. I have a Sony 5.1 surround sound 5 disc changer connected to the HDTV by stereo RCA cables. I do not get 5.1 sound from the HTSB at the moment since my surround sound does not accept HDMI or optical.

I would like to connect another HD TV and sound system in my kitchen at a location about 8 meters away form the livingroom set.
I plan on buying a new HDTV with HDMI input and a new reciever/CD player.

My HSTB has a remote IR eye so its no problem with the remote control.

What is the best way to plug in both systms to the same HSTB? Do I use an HDMI splitter?

Thanks!

You should be able to use mutiple HD outputs on the cable STB at the same time. That would be HDMI and component video. You would have to watch the same channel on both TV's if viewing both TV's at the same time. You can get an HDMI to DVI cable for video to your TV in the living room and optical to the reciever. You then can run component video out to the TV in the kitchen. But at nearly 25 ft, that is a pretty long run. You will want a quality cable and they can be quite pricey. Here is a very good 25ft cable for around $35.. It also includes the RCA audio cables for audio as well. If you want DD 5.1, you will need to run another seperate optical cable with splitter.

HDMI to DVI cable (If the cable STB has HDMI):

Component cable (with audio):

Here is the splitter:
