Default No sound through HDMI

hi guys

i'm using a new acer 5920 laptop with a hdmi out, and a hanspree tv with one hdmi port.

my previous laptop took sound as well as picture to the tv no problem with the existing cable. is this a laptop or tv issue? no sound with any media through the hdmi cable. picture is fine. i've tried hd content, non-hd content, games. all have no sound.

i've checked all the settings i can find on the acer in case something is disabled by default, but all settings are listed as "working". i'd really appreciate a solution guys. many thanks.

If your old laptop provided video and sound throught a HDMI cable to the TV then I would say it is the laptop.

If the old laptop was hooked up by some other means then it could be a setting in the TV. Often the audio is menu selected to either come from the HDMI port or a separate audio port. The separate audio port would be required if the laptop had a DVI output and you used a DVI to HDMI cable. Check your TV setup.

thanks. there are no settings to play around with on the tv, just the usual scart/scart2/hdmi/s-video etc etc. i may have to try a different cable just to take that option out of the equation. very odd. thanks for reply anyway. i'll post if i find solution.

Sounds like (no pun intended) the new laptop. If you have an analog audio input for one of the HDMI TV inputs, you might give those a try.

Default similar problem

I have a similar problem, i cannot get my HP DV5t laptop to transmit sound on my Samsung 32" HDTV LN-S3251D through HDMI, picture is fine though. I have another 23" Samsung TV and sound and picture both work perfectly when connected to the same laptop. So i have no idea what to do i am going crazy. My laptop has a blue ray player im trying to use. Please tell me if you figure out the problem.
