Default Connection Questions (Sammy 56" DLP 1080p, Sony Surround, TWC SA 8300HD, Xbox 360)

I am wondering if this is the best situation

TWC SA 8300HD DVR user here, getting a 1080p tv this week, have a 2 year old Sony Surround sound system, and a Xbox 360 and looking to get the right cables.

With my selections below I can watch Cable TV (HD on one source and SD on another) perhaps with Surround Sound depending on connection, I can watch DVDs through surround sound and DVD player, and I can play Xbox 360 or DVDs (with or without Surround Sound depending on connection)

Cable to TV:
- HDMI from Cable box to TV (in 1080p)
- S-Video for SD (if HDMI is not great) on diff. source (SD quality)
Do I need an Audio Cable? (if I want surround sound then maybe a audio cable to my surround sound?)

Xbox 360 to TV
- VGA or PC connection for Xbox 360 to TV (1080p)
maybe Optic or standard (R & Y) Audio?? maybe to surround sound?

Sony Surround to TV for DVDs and surround sound
- S-video to TV (I think is all it supports, will have to check) (480)
- Optic Audio to Surround Sound Receiver

Does all this sound right?

1. HDMI cable will be fine, you would not need s-video for the cable box

2. Xbox can be hooked up through either VGA or Component ( but you would need to get a Xbox to Component cable

3. Sony surround system should be connected though the component to achive the best quality. I am sure you have enough component video inputs on the beck of your tv.

ok I thought the HDMI would cover video and sound.... by the way, I am only using component cables right now and HD and SD both look damn good (HD is Amazing on Discovery HD and SD is okay, better than I thought it would)

Also saw that the Sony surround does not have any optical audio out or in and no component out or in!! so I am stuck with analog video (Red, White, and Yellow wires) and sound going to/from TV.

Looks like I will be watching DVDs on my xbox 360 and getting better sound and video from that!!
