I am considering an HDTV, but I am not sure my older VCR can hook up to the TV. I have my digital cable box feed into the VCR, then the VCR to the TV. What's the best way to connect them? And can I carry an HD picture into and out of this VCR?
Here are the specs: VCR 1. ANTENA INPUT 2. RF OUT TO TV 3. LINE IN 1 (Audio / Video) 4. LINE OUT (Audio / Video) 5. LINE AUDIO OUT (S-VIDEO OR COMPONENT) 6. DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (COAXIAL) 7. COMPONENT VIDEO OUT 8. DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) 9. S-VIDEO OUT HDTV Video Input: HDMI (x3); RCA Component (x2) + Audio; RCA Composite (x1) + Audio; S-Video; 15-pin PC VGA + Audio; Coaxial Antenna |

First you'll need to request an HD cable box from your provider, connect that via HDMI cable to your TV you can connect your DVD to the TV either via standard red & white for sound and component for picture (red/green/blue cables). But you should consider purchasing a bluray player to take advantage of the higher grade picture quality available to you.

i'm confused - you say i can connect my dvd player (it's a dvd/vcr combo) to the tv and get hd (for dvd's) using the red & white & picture cables? if so, why can't i connect the hd box to the dvd player then to the tv? where is hd lost?
thanks. |

You can connect your dvd player to your TV but you will not be able to see dvd in HD as it is not hd to begin with, That is the reason I suggested you get a BluRay player which will upscale your dvd to higher quality picture (but still not HD) For HD disc you'll need a bluray player to display 1080 resolutin images, your dvd will only display 420 resolution images.

Probably not. Does it have an HDMI output?
It usually doesn't matter whether or not the output is digital. Most TVs can take analog inputs, too. It could be the single yellow composite video cable or the three cable blue, red, and green component bundle. |

It looks like you have three types of analog video you can use.
Composite (a single cable with RCA connectors, probably yellow) S-video Component (three cables with RCA connectors, red, green, blue) |
