Hi, I don't know which section this topic should go under so I am posting it here. I have a full HD TV and a new PC that has a HD video card and a HDMI output. My question is if I can use a HDMI/DVI adapter to DVI-HDMI cable without losing the HD quality?
Sample: [PC with HDMI output]----[HDMI/DVI adapter]----[DVI/HDMI cable]----[HDTV] Thanks! |

I'm confused...why not just HDMI to HDMI ? It is possible you might lose the audio feed when you used an HDMI to DVI adaptor, since DVI spec's do not include audio. Depends on the DVI cable and the type of adapter, but a simple HDMI cable of the length needed is so much simpler.
http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2 this is a fairly large diameter cable with larger individual wires (22 ga.) to insure good performance over the longer 25' distance. I use this type of cable to hook an HDMI equiped laptop computer to my HDTV. |

If I go with DVI-HDMi, and use a headphone alike plug (called something jack?) and connect the sound to my receiver and still get 5.1 sound? |

I know my best choice is to have a HDMI-HDMI and connect it from my computer to te receiver but my receiver does not support HDMI And it only has 1 toslink/optical input and it's used for PS3 already. But I do have S/PDIF Jack in the back of my computer and I don't know if I can use that to get real 5.1 surround sound. Below are 2 images showing my PC and Receiver: |

I guess I'll update my receiver to one that supports HDMI soon for better sound.
