Default Need help with HDMI switch to HD and SD tvs

I've tried to search for similar threads and can't find an answer that fits my question. It seems like people on this site know what they're doing, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

I want to split the signal from my DirecTV box to one HD tv and one SD tv. I don't need the signal to go to both tvs simultaneously, but want a more simple solution than unplugging and plugging in every time I change rooms. I also don't care about retaining the quality on the SD tv, but would like to retain most, if not all, of the quality on the HD tv.

In the old days of "universal" coax cables, they used to make a small contraption that had one coax in, and two coax outs. You could then toggle a switch that would send the output signal between the two tvs. I basically want the same thing, except with one HD in, one HD out (preferable HDMI), and one SD out (either standard coax, composite, or S-vid). And I'm hoping there's an inexpensive solution.

Any help or suggestions (other than get another DirecTV box) are greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Smile Signal splitter

I don't think I've ever seen a switch like that, but you might check www.monoprice.com . They have the best prices on the web. And, by the way, if you had Dish network, they have a few dual tuner DVRs that are EXACTLY what you want - 1 HD output for TV1 and 1 SD output for TV2.

If I had Dish, I wouldn't get NFL Sunday Ticket, and this problem would never had existed. If Dish ever gets NFL, I'll switch.

But in the meantime, I'm thinking I'm out of luck. Unless anyone else has any ideas? Is it even possible to adapt an HD signal into a SD signal? HDMI to S-vid, component to composite?

Doesn't the DirecTV box have multiple outputs?
Run the HDMI output to your HDTV and either coaxial or S-video to your SDTV.
