I have had this problem for the last several months. About every other day, first thing in the morning, receive msg ' serching for signal' then 'no signal'. I unplug the box, plug back in, wait for the time display, turn the box on and everithing is fine. Now...this happen only first time I turn box and tv on. I can turn everithing on and off dozen of times during the day and it will never fail. Changed 3 boxes, still happens. Comcast sent the local Super Tech and nothing changed. They point finger to Samsung (Samsung 37" lcd series 5 1 year old),Samsung tells me talk to Comcast..........any ideas?

How are you connected between the HDTV and the set-top-box, ie. HDMI cable or component cables? If its a HDMI cable try component cables as a test for a few days to see if the problem persists.

Nothing. Just unplug the HDMI cable and plug in the component cables then change the TV to the component input.

Fnally I found a decent one and this morning Tv and Box were in sync. The acid test will be this weekend, in the past I never had a signal first thing in the morning on Sat and Sun. Still on HDMI. Will see.... |

Cable boxes connected to TV's in particular Samsung brand have many issues. HDCP handshake issues are the most common and most cable providers do not even support a HDMI connection.
So, if you do have any future problems it is highly recommend that you switch to component video cables (3 cables red, green, blue) which eliminates these problems in 99% of cases and delivers just as high quality HD picture as you would get with HDMI.

I think I may know your solution, where you can utilize HDMI as it is more convenient. If you turn on both at the same time, or the TV box first, you will need to press source then the red quare on the TV remote. What happens is the TV is looking for a signal before the screen even lights up, and when it is not there when it is searching it will default to the black screen reading 'no signal.' If you were to just simply turn on the cable box first, it would work fine, that is why it is happening about every other day. The Cable STB doea not send a signal as fast as the TV is finished searching. I had this issue for a while when trying to switch inputs to PS3, Wii, etc. I just learned to turn on the source component, then change inputs. Good luck!!!

Thanks for the update. I guess you just had a run of bad luck with replacement set top boxes which definetly makes troubleshooting harder.

Well.....the light at the end of the tunnel was the proverbial freight train. Friday and Saturday put me back to square one. Had to reboot the box as before. I'll try the suggested workaround but for the life of me I don't understand why, if is a compatability problem, happens only first thing in the morning and then sporadically. Hidden somewhere there is an explanation for me to find but I don't know if I have the fortitude to pursuit it. I guess I'll keep rebooting and rebooting and reb.......
