What is HD?

Hey all,
Lurking for a while here, finally decided to join and post. I have 2 set top boxes currently in use at my house. Since I am getting a new TV tomorrow, I need to wire the second cable box in tomorrow downstairs. However, I only have one coax cable coming out of the wall downstairs and need to set up 2 TVs. I would get Comcast to set up a second wall jack; however, HOA regulations prevent me from getting it done. My question now is... can I use my 2-way splitter (Phillips 5-900mhz) to route one wall signal to 2 boxes. One regular SD box and another HD box with DVR. Input appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe. One sign I look for in a splitter is the range, and 1GHz is better than 900MHz. While that specific parameter perhaps doesn't matter, the issue of quality cannot be sidestepped. Technically what you're doing is no different from what Comcast would do if your HOA allowed it, but they'd use excellent quality splitters and excellent quality cabling and connectors. Every bit of quality compromise you make in this regard (and sometimes it isn't a matter of money, but rather that many of us simply have trouble finding higher quality supplies) will make it that much more likely that you'll introduce so much degradation that you'll have problems, perhaps on both televisions.

I can imagine! That's a nice splitter; perhaps overkill for cable.
