Default Comcast HD DVR starts to record when i shut off cable box? Weird

Hey guys, new to this forum and before I return my HD DVR from comcast tomorrow to get a replacement...i did some searching around. I did not find anything on this topic because it is too close to people trying to learn if they can record with the DVR off. You'll why I cant search my issue in a moment.

Anyway, as of right this moment, i found reset and download firmware instructions for my HD DVR so it's doing that right now and for the next 20 minutes or so.

My cable box is acting weird, if i record a channel, i cant view any other channels (all channels say this channel will be available shortly). If i stop the DVR recording, i still can't see the channels. Once i shut the cable box off and on (power off/on with remote) i can start to see channels again.

Also, when i shut the cable box off, the TV display does not go black, it actually still shows the video of the TV on the screen, just no audio and the record light turns on, but doesnt actually record anything. On my 2nd box, when i hit power on the cable box, the tv goes black, which is what it should do because turning off the cable box stops the output from going to the tv, lol.

So when i do it on my HD DVR, hitting power to the cable box, it makes a click like normal, but the image is still displayed on the screen, and it's no a still image, its a moving image as if the cable box was still on, but no audio, and like i said, the record light comes on.

So when i tried to search "record light on when cable box is off", all I came back with is people asking why they need to leave their cable box on to record programs (i guess people are used to cablevision where the DVR can be turned off and it will still record, comcast turns on the DVR when is record time and if you shut it off, it stops recording, but thats besides the point).

SO can anyone offer some insight as to what may be the cause of this? I call comcast and they just tell me its the splitter and want someone to come out, but its not the splitter, i have 4 splitters and I tried them all. There is however, a split coming from main line in, which is split to cable box, and to modem...but i disabled the modem to see if that would help, but the line and signal is not the problem, its definitely the cable box.

So besides this firmware download and reset, anything else? has anyone see this before ?

Let me know, and thanks for listening/reading.
