Default New Gen Comcast Set-Top Box?

While talking with Comcast tech support today about an intermittent sound drop out problem, the Comcast CSR mentioned that they were beginning to slowly roll out a new set-top box. She didn't have many details, but said it was smaller, black, had a touch screen, and was rumored to support full 1080p. She said they were currently installing these boxes on a trial basis in the southern suburbs of Chicago but had no other information. Sounds sweet and I frankly would try anything to replace my current buggy HD box.

Does anyone have any additional info on this new box and Comcast's plans?

Don't know if this is it but this one sounds very interesting . . .

DCX3400 All-Digital, HDTV, Dual-Tuner DVR, M-Card Host Set-top

http://www.motorola.com/business/US-...008406b00aRCRD

And it also supports 3DTV:

I just recieved this new dvr from comcast today to replace a bricked dct6412. The tech says it will take quite a while to download the onscreen guides and menus. It is a 250gb hdd. Better than the 80gb it is replacing. According to him, the dct 6412 was actually 120gb, but Comcast limited it to 80gigs. He didn't know why but he says this will have the full 250 available. He also said this box is Tivo compatable(!?) and Tivo service will be part of the triple play and may just "be there" when Comcast rolls it out in my area! Is he BSing me? Another thing he told me is that the firewire port is active!
I will report back on my thoughts when it is up and running. Looks better in my rack than that 'ol grey box!

firewire port is active on the old boxes as an fyi.

Also, thats odd it has docsis2.0 and not 3.0. I'm on docsis 3.0 now. So that thing wont work for my cable modem.

that box is the DCX3400? The reason I ask is because I just talked to comcast to see if it was available in my area and they said that model is discontinued. Comcast is so confusing. That seems too long to load the guide and menus but I have the DCH3416

That sounds just like comcast. The tech told me they just got them today! He called me 5 minutes ago and said the first download can take 5-6 hours. It does seem long. Heres hoping this thing isn't junk.

If it wasn't junk-they wouldn't be offering it to you.

Default I have had the caller ID for several months.

Here in the computer/office/junk room I have the older Motorola box. I thought about getting the newer box but all I have is a 30 something crt so it's not a biggie.

Installed at 9am and still not working, no menu no guides no dvr functions. They replaced a brick with a brick. I thought it was odd that it would take 5-6 hours to DL. He said he would call me at six pm to check up on it. No call. I will call the center and if a tech can't resolve the issue over the phone, back to Comcrap it will go and I will just live without a DVR for a while. Until ATT becomes available in my area anyway.

That (in my experience) is the normal time it takes to fully download 2 weeks of GUIDE. I live in So. FL where I experience power shut offs a couple of times a week due to lightening storms.

I have the 3416 (all digital) and my son has the 6412 (analog/digital) and it takes the same amount of time to fully populate the guide.

If the PS3 would just hurry up and get HD Hulu and Netfix straming, I'd dump cable altogether.

On the old one it did take about three of four hours to DL the the whole guide but the current day was up within an hour. I have zero funtionality besides changing channels. At least my old moto had guides and on demand. Right now, 10 hrs into this, I have nothing but a box that tells me what channel I'm watching.
