Default TWC Which HDDVR

Son just purchased Samsung PN50B450 and is p/u his TWC HDDVR this weekend. He lives in San Diego, Ca and I am going to try and walk him thru set-up via phone. Does anyone know what box he is likely to get and have any reccomendations on hook-up with this particular TV. I want to make sure he has proper cables before TV arrives on Sunday.
Thanks-Joe

You can't go wrong if he has a component, HDMI, and digital audio calbes on hand. If the TV and HDDVR have HDMI, then you can return the component. If he is going to run the audio through a Home Theater, then he will need the digital audio cable.

If they offer the SMT-H3090 by Samsung, definitely the best I have tried. They offer it in NY and NC, do not know about Cali. It is much better then the SA flavor, and the video quality is better IMO. HDMI to TV, then you are done. It has a larger DVR capacity and doesn't have the many glitches of the Sammy nonDVR version or SA.

Basic cables may come with it, but if not, all he really needs is a 5-wire set of component cables to get going. Anything else is convenience, HDMI can replace all 5 wires, but will not be much better in picture quality.

Agreed on the A/V receiver, a digital sound cable will be required if he has a newer one. If not, red and white analog cables will do the job.

Personally I recommend HDMI cables just to make the resulting cable rats nest neater. In my case I have a wall mounted HDTV and run HDMI cables from the HD DVR set top box and a DVD player through wiremold painted with matching wall paint for a nice dressed look. I also run a power cable to the TV and an antenna coax through the wiremold.

We're in NYC and hate our SA8300HDC and the SA8300HD doesn't get all the HD channels. Is the new Samsung offered in NYC? We would love a change. I called TWC customer service, and of course they could not answer the question. They say the only way to find out is to go to one of the payment centers.

Default Finally...

I hope they have them in Brooklyn. The SA HDDVR is a joke what with the constant audio dropouts and image freezing/pixelation...

I had the same problem with pixelation on mine as well. Called up TWC and they did something (not sure exactly what) that fixed the problem from their end.
