Default Strange Comcast problem

I had Comcast installed today at my new place. I'm using a Motorola DCT-6412 to a Samsung Tantus DLP HLP467W. I have some other components I plan to put the in the way but just wanted something for now. When the guy came buy, he hooked it up and all looked ok. After he left I noticed after a few minutes that the screen was then black at the DLP was indicating "not supported mode". It is setup correctly pulling signal from the component inputs. I've played around with it and I can get S-video to work and if I shut everything off for a few minutes sometimes I can use the component cables and other times not. I wonder if the box is bad. It looks well used - the box that is. Comcast said someone would come out "immediately" whatever that means to replace the box. Here I sit in my new place with at least internet. Any input is greatly appreciated. I trust you guys more than the installers.

Thanks,
Brad

I noticed sometimes if a box has multiple outputs hooked from it it will do that... e.g. you have cable out hooked into the tv+component also, It really wouldn't hurt to call and get some assistance with the problem. If it worked when he installed it, I doubt it would be a bad box... It definetely could be tho. I've had similiar problems resolved by simply by unplugging the box AND tv, i guess these suggestions can't hurt?

I've got it hooked up now with s-video using the standard audio out from the cable box. Comcast is supposed to replace the box so that will be interesting. I just have the input into the box and then the s-video and audio outs. Before, I just had the same input into the box from the wall and the component video to the TV and nothing.

you can just go down to your local comcast office and swap the box out for future reference. You dont have to wait for them to come back out. I use to take mine down there every 6months for new ones.

I went to the local office and swapped the box out. It didn't solve much. However, I did figure out that on dvr items and on "on demand" items it goes to "not supported mode". Some channels also cause this to happen. If I switch the inputs on the TV from 1080 to 480 then i can "see" it. A friend of mine told me I need either a new TV or a new receiver to convert the signal. Any ideas? I hate to buy a new anything since these work.

Thanks!
Brad

Have you tried setting the DCT6412 to output 720p?

Yes, that's the Comcast box. Try this.

With the TV power on, turn off the cable box
Push the menu button
Select 16X9 for your TV type
Select 720 in the HDMI settings
Press menu
Power on cable box

Another friend just suggested to use my DVI inputs on the TV with an HDMI adapter and run the signal just from the comcast box HDMI out to the TV for video and then run an optical cable from the audio out on the comcast box to my receiver. Sound good?
