Smile Time Warner Cable NYC New Samsung DVR h3090

TWC of NYC is replaceing the SA 8300hdc with Samsung h3090

I picked one up on Tuesday at TWC store at the Queens Center Mall it has been excellent so far great great Picture, Guide and Dvr Functions are much faster, the only Glitch we had was a minor one Caller ID on TV was not provisioned a call to TWC got that fixed.so far we have had no Pixalation or audio drop outs which were a daily event on the SA8300hdc, the unit is black and fits in with all my other home entertainment stuff, all and all this is one nice box. the hard drive is 160gb not the 360gb that Twc was using in other markets

How much recording space do you get on the 160 gb model? If you record in HD, does it take up more space? As you can probably guess, I am not very technical.

Yes recording in Hd takes up a Lot more space, if I remember correctly 160 GB is some where around 60 hours in SD some one correct this if wrong about hours

I like the SMT-H3090, it delivers a much better HD picture than the Previous SA STB did for sure. It does have a rather small DVRHD when recording HD. I can record about 10-12 movies, so about 20 hours? That seems low, but it works great!

Personally, I'd take the Samsung's usability over a HDDVR with a bigger HD any day...

I guess this is a question for McKenna... I'm a TWC customer in Qns and currently have a SA8300HD box. I had an HDC but insisted on getting the HD back with Passport software. Now they've uploaded Mystro "Navigator" to my box and the Passport advantage is gone. Question is... would the Samsung 3090 be better at this point than the SA8300HD?? What do you think? Thanks..

Strange thing is that the 8300HD is running Mystro very well and the picture is very good. The only advantage I see to getting the Samsung is that the HDMI would probably work better on the 3090. I'm having trouble making up my mind. This should be the least of my problems. Thanks

Those of you that have the Samsung,(getting mine tomorrow) I see in the manual they show a keyboard/mouse plugged into the USB. Is that feature enabled?

I do not know if the keyboard and usb are enabled for this unit, as I have had no need to attempt it. I can tel you though, IMHO, the Sammy 3090 does a hell of a job on PQ versus the SA 8300. The Sammy made the shows/movies look much, much better. And the functions flow faster.

If you use HDMI and surround sound you'll need to enable a special setting or else you won't get AC3. To enable AC3 over HDMI you have to press Vol+ and Info. Go to Extended diagnostics then go to Diagnostics. Enter 3090 as the password then follow the instructions to enable this great feature. It happens as soon as you enable this option. Enjoy!

TWC San Diego might be finalizing or have recently deployed the Samsung SMT-H3270 with a 320 GB HDD.

Just went to the Queens Center Mall to get my HD Box with no DVR. They gave me a silver samsung box i don't remember the model but it looks like the thread starters except mine is silver. Damn they run that place like DMV lol. We'll see how good it is once I get my HDTV on Monday or Tuesday. Right now I have it hooked up to my old CRT and it looks and preforms good only thing thats not showing up is the caller ID. Going to have to call up for that.
