Angry

I'm in NYC. My SA 8300HD box just got remotely updated to Mystro and so far I'm really annoyed about all the good functionality which is now gone. Just a few examples:

-shows in program guide no longer have labels "Live", "Taped", or "Repeat". How are you supposed to know what shows are live?
-DVR no longer automatically prompts you to extend the end time of live programs.
-in the guide the label "NEW" is shown erroneously in many programs that aren't new.
-the guide provide less program "info" than before.
-the duration of the programs are no longer displayed on the first screens in the guide, search, or show list- you have to drill down to see it.
-searching for shows is much less user friendly and takes much more buttons and time. The Find Shows feature puts you back at "A" every time you start a search. I used to be able to press one button ("C") to see every instance of whatever show I was on in the guide. Now I have to keep drilling down, and also uncollapse multiple listings of a program.
-when you hit Pause the banner stays on the screen- it used to disappear. Not good for sports.
-when using REW or FF it use to show the exact time you're at in the program. Now it's harder to figure out.
-the Instant Reply often doesn't work right the first time you use it on a program- the first time it replays only a couple of seconds. It replays the correct 8 seconds only if you hit it again.
-when you REW at the slowest speed, the program actually jumps AHEAD a number of seconds from where you release the REW button.
-viewing Scheduled Programs used to be one button away. Now you have to scroll to it, hit a button, then hit another button to sort by date or title- not good.
- in the new Start Over feature- I found once you're viewing a program in start over mode you can't even use FF.

Does anyone else have these same problems? Does the new Samsung box have the same issues?

The only good new features IMO:
-sorting of favorites in guide
-display of "%" space remaining on hard drive.

btw, should I try to enable AC3 even if I don't have a surround sound system. My Pioneer Kuro 5080 plasma has very nice sound.

The Samsung 3090 definitely has these same issues. The Mystro software is really poor, as you have extensively described.

The only good thing about the Samsung is the case is a dark grey, so it blends better with the other metal boxes on the shelf. I also find it to be quieter than the 8300.

Will try the AC3 audio output tonite and report back, I don't have surround either.

I forgot to mention these other lost features with Mystro:

-no more advancing forward or back frame-by-frame.
-when watching a recorded program the tuner display switches to the channel of the recorded program instead of staying on the channel you're actually tuned to- it's not easy to remember what channel you're tuned to in case you want to go back to live programming.

So to recap- with the switch to Navigator and Mystro there's only about 15 friggin useful features I no longer have- nice work Time Warner Cable! And I'll reiterate- why would I want to use the dopey Start Over feature with it's purposely disabled Fast Forward function?

I enabled AC3, but no sound would come out of my Sony Bravia with audio coming over HDMI. I'll try hooking audio via optical and see if that works.

However, with audio set to AC3 (in the Settings->Devices menu on the 3090), the Dolby lights on my receiver light up, as do the surround speaker indicators. When audio is set to HDMI, the PCM indicator lights up on my receiver.

In both modes, I do hear LFE from the subwoofer. However, I think the HDMI mode sounds better than the AC3 mode, but maybe I have to tweak my receiver.

Still, these audio options do not make up for the awful Mystro software.

You need to enable HDMI in the devices menu for sound over HDMI. I use optical and AC-3 for surround, and it does a decent job. PCM caused too many volume changes and lack of surround altogether. Not clear why that is yet. Mystro is a work in progress I guess. Not the best for sure!

Yeah the new software really sucks. Its much slower when your scrolling through the guide and stuff.
