Default Any body experienced with Sci Atlanta 8300hd external sata

I have a Sci Atlanta 8300hd with an external sata drive connected (500mb). Although the drive can be disconnected and reconnected no problem, you cannot connect it to a different dvr.

I want to upgrade to a 1.5tb drive, however, my 500mb is still half full. I was planning on removing the 500mb, recording shows to the 1.5tb during the week, then reconnecting the 500mb on the weekend to finish watching what's on it.

Question is, will my DVR continue to recognize the programs on the 500 after I attached and unattach the 1.5 or will it ask me to reformat the drive?

Once a drive is formatted by the DVR, it's good. You will have no problem doing what you want to.

That's interesting. I never thought of it that way. I was thinking of doing the same thing as the OP, but figured I would lose the 500g. It makes sense though. It's still the same DVR box. I guess the problem comes in if you use a different DVR box. However, will the DVR show both externals as "recognized" or will one overright the other thus causing a format of the drive?
