Using DCT-2000 cable box with built in HD tuner card in Hi-Def Television

I have a DCT-2000 Motorola digital cable box and a Vizio VP322 HD TV. The TV has a built in HD tuner card and when I just plug in the cable directly into the TV, I can get the local channels in HD. Is there some way I can use the card in conjunction with my DCT-2000 to get the HD channels as well? I do pay for HD channels but I didn't want to get another HD box for this room (as I do have one). Any help would be appreciated.

Unless your TV has an internal QAM tuner, it won't be able to decode the scrambled cable signals.

My TV does indeed have a QAM tuner. It has a combination standard def/HD TV tuner built in. I just don't know how to utilize it in conjunction with my cable box.

yes - your TV does have a QAM tuner along with the ATSC and NTSC tuners:

But your Moto DTC 2000 is NOT an HD cable box:

You need to replace it with one like the 3412/3416 or the 6412/6416 (34 series is all digital while the 64 series is digital/analog combo - depends on your cable service as to which they will give you. The 12 = 120 GB HDD while the 16 = 160 GB HDD))

You wont be able to get any HD channels other than the locals with the STB you currently have.

Thanks for the help! I didn't think it was possible to do what I wanted to and this confirms that. I guess I'll need to pay the extra whatever the price is a month and upgrade to a HD set top box then. Thanks again.

the 64 or 34 series is dvr if you don't want dvr ask for the 6200 or 3200 boxes, or you can get a cable card if your tv supports it and you don't have any sdv channels.
