Help connecting a Time Warner HD box to Sony TV and Tivo
Hello everyone! I have a technical problem that I was wondering if anyone out there would be kind enough to help me with.
I have a Sony Bravia KDL-40V3000 tv, with Time Warner cable, a Tivo Series 2 box, and a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 3100 cable box. Recently, I found out that I can trade this last box for an HD box and get better picture. This was good news, because I was wondering why the picture on my 1080p TV was so average.
So, I'm told the procedure is to go to the local Time Warner center in Midtown Manhattan with my old box and exchange it for a new one. This is correct, right? However, I'm really nervous that as soon as I disconnect my old box, connecting my new one will be a huge problem. It took me hours with the Tivo reps to connect things the first time around so that the Tivo records and the TV works.
Could anyone tell me a step-by-step process to connecting the new box, once I get it, and what additional equipment I need, if any? I'm not very tech savvy, and I'm concerned nothing will work as soon as I disconnect my old box. Currently, there's nothing connected directly to the TV except my Nintendon Wii and the Tivo. From the cable box, the "Digital Audio In" and "Cable In" ports are connected to their appropriate spots on the Tivo. If there are other details I need to provide, I'd be happy to do it.
Get a DVR from Time Warner and forget the Tivo. Is your Tivo HD? Does it have a cable card slot? Using a Tivo with a cable box is not a good idea. Record 2 programs at the same time with a rented cable DVR. You might be inclined to have them install it. What you describe of Tivo sounds more complex than cable. Cable boxes are easy to plug in, then you call the cable company to activate the pay channels. Hope I have helped a little bit.
