Default Help pulling data off my SA 8300

I have a SA 8300HD that is stuck in a reboot cycle. If it does come back w/ picture it is only for about 10 minutes before it starts the reboot cycle again. am getting errors, but dont remember the errors off hand... did a web search last night and it referenced a power supply failure... Easy solution is to replace the box, but I have data I dont want to lose.

TW gave me another box to use while I figure out how to get my data off the box. I know I can purcahse a DVR expander, but dont need it other than for this purpose... could buy and return... but that is a PIA.

Any other options? If not and I do use a DVR expander, can I d/l the old boxes data onto the new box? Also, if the box is constantly rebooting, will it eliminate my ability to successfully transfer the data?

Any other suggestions?

Your help is greatly appreciated?

The only way to get recordings off a DVR is to play the recording and capture the video output with a video capture card, VCR, or DVD. There's no way to transfer the data like you would a file on a PC.

There really is no way to get recordings off of a DVR hard drive if the DVR is not working. Theoretically, if the DVR could have the problem fixed and assuming it didn't take out the hard drive, then the recordings could be saved. A long shot might be swapping the hard drive to a good DVR, but that assumes they don't marry the hard drives to a given DVR and the risk could be two broke DVRs. It also may be possible to swap the power supplies if the power supplies are a separate board in the DVRs. Any attempt to repair could be risky though.

The best thing to say is get prepaired to not have this happen again. I use the Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR Video Capture device connected to my PC. It is a box that will record the HD video from a DVR via the component video and either stereo audio or optical audio cables.
