Thumbs down

Amazing...

I use TW in the Rio Grande region during the winters so now we're down to 13 HD channels from the whopping 15 we had before this news...

Not from my region (Raleigh, NC). As a matter of fact, HDNet is being moved from the pay HD tier to "free" HD.

"Upcoming Channel Lineup Changes:
May 28, 2009: HD Net (Channel 293) will move from the HD Tier to the Digital Tier and the following channel will be added: Smithsonian HD."

Default tw and hd

cambridge, ohio has 26 hd channels and we have had a promise from tw of new channels to be added in march and april of 2009. it did not happen and they cant tell us when it will. they closed their office in town last month and just left the service guys in place for now. we are former aldelphia cable customers and as such they need to upgrade to system. but it seems that is not being done.

What an awful thing to do. Those are my two favorite HD channels and always have been. Movies and concerts in OAR and HD make HDTV worth owning for me. I am sure it is a business decision and I don't know the factors that resulted in the decision. I like those channels much more than any combination of HBO channels and that may be part of the problem, Warner needs to sell their own channels.

I just read the notice from TW-Albany NY area, and they have a notice posted that the contract with HDNet and HDNET movies is expiring soon and may or may not be renewed (along with some local stations)

Being a movie buff, I agree it's unacceptable and unconscionable not to renew. I'd gladly surrender all the junk HD Channels I don't rats a** about (BIO, QVC, lifetime, disney, disney XD, abc family, food, travel hallmark and yes even golf) I WANT MY HDNET movies!

Both channels are great but what I don't know is anything about the terms offered to TW to continue to carry the channels. I know the channels have been money losers for HDNet, very expensive to provide the movies and programming and subscription revenue hasn't been great. Now it may be the terms being offered are intended to allow Mr. Cuban to operate the business at a profit. It had to happen sometime and I am surprised it didn't happen sooner. I suspect the fees went way up and TW is doing the prudent thing, bluffing but the price needed to go up and subscribers fees for the channels have to go up. It is most of the rest of the channels that don't offer much in the way of value in my opinion.

Time-Warner Cable To Drop HD Net, Ring of Honor on May 31

Quote:
May 16, 2009 by Reggie BrooksTime-Warner Cable will no longer carry Mark Cuban's HD Net, which broadcast Ring of Honor, beginning on or around May 31 in the New York City area.

There had been talk of the cable provider pulling the channel its lineup a few months ago, but those plans were temporarily but on the back burner as talks between Time Warner and HD Net progressed.

It appears as though the talks are at a stalemate as Time-Warner posted the following statement on its website Friday.

"...from time to time we make certain changes in the services that we offer in order to better serve our customers. The following changes are planned:

On or about May 31, 2009 we will no longer carry HD Net Movies on ch. 797 and HD Net on ch. 798.

On or about June 1, 2009 we will launch MAV TV HD on ch. 787. This service will be part of the HD Xtra tier."

Ohio based Heartland Wrestling Association announced that they will be filming a pilot for MAV TV later this month, which is of little consolation to Ring of Honor fans in the New York area.

That stinks! I like HDnet movies. But I am excited about MavTV coming. Saw that on FIOS at my buddies house and they have some great racing and other weird shows. The bikini shows are lacking though.
