Enabling Cable Box volume control from remote on an 8300hd

I'm using an 8300hd, with a 25" monitor that has HDMI input. I know that the HDMI volume control isn't variable, I have the volume running out of the back via RCA to the input of the built-in sterio speakers of the monitor.

I can control the output volume just fine if I'm at the box pushing the buttons, I can't figure out how to enable them on the remote. There isn't a code for it, and none of the 'volume lock' procedures outlined here, and in the manual seem to work.

Any ideas?

(BTW: Thanks for the great forum. I've always found answers here, this is the first time I've had to ASK a question.)

You have to "Volume unlock" the remote.. its the remote itself... Can you tell me if you have a comcast\TWC remote?
