Default DVR shutting off randomly

Hi, Over the last month or so I've noticed my Comcast Motorola DVR seems to shut off on a daily basis, sometimes 2-3 times a day at all random times.

I only noticed this because when I go to watch TV later in the day, I'll see that my list of scheduled recordings beyond that day says "to be announced." This is annoying for someone like myself who manages his recordings and will record a dozen or more movies at a time and often need to free up drive space by looking ahead 2 weeks to re-record the same movie until I have time to watch it.

Otherwise, my DVR seems to be working fine (well, as fine as a DVR works I suppose). My friend says it sounds like a possible hard drive problem.

I have tried rebooting it once and that didn't seem to affect anything.

Any other ideas? Also, should I need Comcast to come swap out my DVR for a new one, is there any way to transfer my old recordings to the new machine? Or are they lost forever to that hard drive?

Thanks,
John

Hey thanks for replying. My wife mentioned to me that she thinks it shuts off "around 6am" every day. How can I find out if there is a setting for an automatic shutoff at certain times?

Thanks
John

what model is it? I don't about the iguide, but in the software cox uses there is a power off setting. It might just be the dvr is bad.
