Arrow Time Warner Cable Drops FearNet

Titles No Longer Available After Deal With Horror-Themed VOD Network Expires

Time Warner Cable has stopped carrying FearNet's video-on-demand titles, after the MSO's distribution deal with the horror-themed VOD network expired.

Time Warner Cable director of public relations Robyn Watson said the MSO's contract with FearNet expired effective March 31, "so all VOD titles that were previously available from FearNet have been removed from our VOD library."

Watson declined to comment on why Time Warner Cable's deal with FearNet was not renewed. FearNet announced the deal with TWC last July.

Bright House Networks, which has an agreement to take advantage of TWC's distribution deals, has also dropped FearNet.

FearNet, jointly owned by Comcast, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Lionsgate, continues to be available through Comcast, Cox Communications, Verizon's FiOS TV, AT&T's U-verse TV, Insight Communications and Bresnan Communications.

A pop-up notice currently on FearNet.com urges TWC and Bright House customers to call 877-FEAR-247, and promises visitors that "we'll connect you with your operator and you can let them know you want FearNet back."

Separately, Time Warner Cable -- in a Web notice to customers on channel changes -- said the "previously announced possible removal" of HDNet and HDNet Movies on or about March 31, 2009 "will not occur at this time" indicating the MSO is still in talks with HDNet. The cable operator had planned to replace those services with Smithsonian HD and MavTV HD.

For those of you affected, here's an update on the Time Warner/FEARnet situation.

I'm working with FEARnet to help get the network back on TW. If you are a horror fan and want to help, please become a fan of FEARnet's official Facebook page. We are hoping to get 50,000 fans.
