Default Comcast Box Reset to 480P/720P

We have a Sony HTSS2300 AV system with a Sony KDL52S4100 TV with a Comcast Motorola DCH-3416 cable box. We are very pleased with the Sony equipment, but are having problems with the HDMI interface back to the cable box. All interconnections are made with HDMI cables. I set the cable box to 1080I with all of the equipment on and everything works with 1080I resolution. When I turn off the system, the cable box resets to 480P and 720P. It appears that the HDMI interface to the cable box resets the resolution. I can reset the cable box, but turning the AV system off then back on, the cable box resets. I have contacted Comcast with no support from them. Is there any way that I can inhibit the HDMI signal from the HTSS2300 to the cable box from resetting the box? Will a self-powered HDMI switch between he cable box and the AV work? If so, what ones will work?

Something's not right. I say that because the default setting of the DCH3416 is 1080i. So I may be able to understand if the DVR reset to it's default setting upon power up, but it setting to 720p/480p is not defaul. You may have done this, but I would go through the setup again. Check out page 11 of the User Manual.

Its a known issue that comcast and motorola are ignoring.

Comcast HD/DVR 4:3 Override issue

I have gone thru about 6 boxes and even another model and they all do the same thing. When the HDMI source powers off the box acts as though its been unplugged and resets the factory settings which for my boxes happens to be 480p/720p and 4:3 override off. For me, if I turn off my stereo that theHDMI is connected to or my tv it resets the box. I've gone back to using component cabls for the dvr box because I got tired of resetting the dvr.

Ive talked to dozens of comcast employees and physically went to a comcast service center and hooked up a DVR to they're showroom LCD via HDMI and replicated the problem for the employee after he adamantly told me I was doing something wrong and there wasnt an issue. Needless to say he felt like an idiot afterwards. I had another service tech come out and before he even looked at my hookup told me I must have hooked up the HDMI wrong. I literally laughed when he said that and said, "hmm I hooked up a cable that consists of 1 plug that can only go into 1 connection on the back wrong". Duplicated the problem and got a very nice apology.

Comcasts motorola boxes are screwed and they dont seem to be doing anything about it considering its been 8 months since I found the issue and its still there.

Thanks guys,

I was just about to rejigger my DCH-3416 output to HDMI. After reading your posts I think I'll just leave it with component output and save myself some aggravation.
