I turned on the NFL network on Comcast and got a message saying that starting on May 1st, NFL netork will not be available on Comcast anymore, and we should call comcast if we want it back on. Anyone know the story behind this??

Comcast wants to keep the NFL Network on the Sports Tier but the NFL wants it on a regular Digital Cable package and Comcast won't budge on leaving it where it is.... until Comcast decides to put it where the NFL wants it we'll stop getting it.

I would gladly pay for the NFL and NFL HD. But if I am going to pay increased cable bill, and STILL not get it, then thats bad. I know nothings free, and I do not expect to watch anything for free, but if I am paying, then I demand that I get what I pay for.

Comcast has now joined Time Warner. Time Warner of course has never carried the NFL Network and has absolutely no plans to ever carry it....unless the NFL agrees to carry it on a sports tier...

Glad to hear some good news from Detroit. MLB was smart in making the cable companies part owners in MLB Net. Not sure about Comcast but I know Time Warner is a part owner in the Baseball Network..

We just got MLB HD on Cox here. Generally pretty good with some HD broadcasts for preseason games. Yesterday I check in on the Mets-Red Sox preseason game at the new Mets stadium. Man was the picture bad. It looked like stretch-o-vision at its worse. I was truly disappointed because I wanted to see the new stadium.

I have TWC and missing the No Fun League Network is just not that important.
NOW, we're talking big-time entertainment with the MLB Network. Great channel! |

What I don't like is where its going. If the NFL can dictate terms and prices, what can the various content bundlers do, regardless if its satellite, cable, or Fiber optic delivered.
Worse yet, if the NFL withholds it from a company like comcast, they may lose customers in droves to some competitor who has NFL network. And then after that poor consumer signs a two year contract with the competitor, they may discover NFL cancels their contract the very next year. Leaving that consumer stuck high and dry with one year to go on their contract. I am not saying its happening here, but it does grant the NFL too much power, blackmail ability, and it can only push costs up for everyone using such subscription services. And that cost can only ultimately fall on the consumer as everyone earlier in the supply chain is afraid to just say no.
