Default Motorola DCX3400

I currently have the DCT6412, but I hear the new box will have more output options and a larger hard drive capacity... Anyone have one of these and any thoughts on it? Also any estimates when I might see this in the SF bay area?

Ask your cable provider.

Yeah, the thing about that is; as always, they are clueless as to specific features of any of the boxes and never know what type they have on hand or are even available in the system at any time.

I could go to the office, wait in line for a half hour and bring one home IF they have them in stock, but figured I'd research it here first (with people a little more knowledgeable). Also, since they just recently started carrying the HDMI boxes here I assume they weren't in a rush to upgrade again, so it'll likely be a few months.

I don't think any cable provider has these yet.

as with the older style dvr's who knows what options certain cable companies will offer.

The DCT6416 has a 160G hard drive compared to 120G for the DCT6412.

The apparent release date for them was at the end of last year though, so I figured someone had to have them already, but I guess not... I figure when they start popping up I will hear more, but figured I'd ask first.

why there is no real benifit for video until they go above what the current boxes can handle. until there is a mass production of the boxes I don't see any cable company getting them. Cox Omaha is 1Ghz, but we are still using the old Motorola DCT 3412-3416 dvr's.

With what theese boxes will cost for the cable companies to buy I don't see any DCX boxes until 2012 at the earliest.

Most smaller Markets get the newer stock since they have fewer to purchase. Large markets then buy the handme downs.

An MSO cannot purchase a "new" box without having the newer technology. They can and Do purchase used boxes from smaller markets, after they upgrade. Maybe not so much from a smaller market, but as a market upgrades, the old equipment is "moved" to a market still using the older equipment. Around here, most of the suburban smaller cable companies are getting the newer boxes, yet the larger urban area usually a (larger name provider) is still stuck with huge boxes that go back 10+ years.

what newer technogy are you taking about? it doesn't matter on the size of the market, but the cable company. the larger ones can not buy the non cablecard boxes anymore. I think the smaller cable companies can apply for a waiver for the cable card.

Cable companies cannot purchase "new" equipment that doesnt have the new cable card built it. They can however purchase "used" equipment.
