Update on Charter in Louisiana. Charter will no longer carry Channel 4 local cbs since an agreement can't be reached. The signal will be cut off on New Years Day according to advertisement on channel. When sent an email to ask if true they sent email back and claimed they could not comment thru email but if I went on sight they would comment. Went on site talked to live agent and claimed legal matter no comment. Well I guess now we will see how digital transition is going to go. One channel went digital already who was in fight with charter to carry high def and just before channel went digital deal got hammered out but this one has been on going for awhile. Funny thing is everyone thinks that I am not understanding that without the digital we won't have High Def. Cable company is currently charging for Digital and High Def but you can't have one without the other.

Charter is doing the exact same thing in North Texas with the local ABC affiliate, WFAA/Channel 8.
From a government-regulatory point of view, I don't see how they can get away with simply not carrying a local channel. Another example proving my theory that Charter is one of the worst companies in America. |

Well I got the story online don't remember the link but this is due to retransmit fees from local stations. According to report the update to digital cost locals a ton of money and satellite companies have been paying a fee to locals to carry there channels and pass it on to the consumer and cable has always been free to consumer. The local stations want anywhere between .25 to 2.00 a customer for cable to carry there transmission. According to cable companies this is unfair business and have placed lawsuits but government refuses to help out cable companies or get in middle of negotiations. Without the agreement cable can't transmit there digital channels and since we are going digital without the agreement they can't copy the signal for analog therefore no service. What is sounds like is if deal can't be done by March 1 I believe the date I read was set cable companies can play hardball and wait until the magical date so that they can raise rates since gov. has put a freeze on rate increases until that date. We will see but as it stands now look for cable rates to climb in near future.
