I'm considering a switch to WOW from Comcast, for all services. I live in Michigan. Has anyone out there made this switch and noticed better or worse HD picture? I ask because I heard a rumor recently that compression (and thus HD picture quality) was worse for WOW--though this doesn't make sense to me given the much greater sibscriber rate for Comcast.

The quality limiting factor is how narrow a bandwidth is assigned to each channel... if compression is forced to use a channel that's too limited, quality drops.
Amount of bandwidth budget depends on total bandwidth of system, divided by number of channels. Trying to cram too many channels into limited bandwidth degrades quality. |
