Question Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDC switches off on HDMI change

Hello

This one is a bit hard to explain. My original Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDC worked fine when switching HDMI inputs on my 42" Vizio. The audio did not switch out on the stereo from the optical, and I was able to go back to the program and rewind back to what I missed. I have a new Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDC now and every time I switch HDMI inputs on the TV the audio cuts out on the stereo and the box seems to switch modes or something. So when I go back to the video from the cable box it acts like as if I switched channels, I can't search (rewind) back the programming. My second HDMI input to the TV is from a satellite receiver and a different audio in on the stereo. The box is almost acting as if it was going into some sort of security mode. Is there a way around this new added dumb BrightHouse feature. Is there a way of programming this box not to switch off the channel recording when I change video inputs on the TV? This is real irritating since I am switching to a Olympic satellite feed and when I go back to cable I can't rewind back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello Joekewl1971,

Well, they are not quite the same according to a borrowed Waveform monitor, Tektronix WFM7120. This is why I went to HDMI, I can see the difference, but now I suffer the stupidity of the cable company and the not so well designed SARA version 1.90.5.106 firmware with the HDCP protection turned on according to page 23 of 59 in the system information. You would think that they would incorporate a delay in the detection so if it detects more than a few seconds then it could go into a protection mode. As stated above, it switches the box as if it was turned off then back on. Just in that instant, the stored program information is gone, preventing the rewind/playback. I wonder if there is a device out there to place on the HDMI out that will keep, lets say a load on the line to keep it from detecting the TV/monitor switching between my satellite receiver and the cable box. Maybe a HDMI switch?

Thanks again

If it does not work, you could be screwed. Quite a bit of time passed, and nobody else solved your problem. I have 2 TV, an HDMI, and a component. They look exactly the same to me. Quite a few say component is better. You seem pretty smart. If you can not figure it out, maybe it can not be done. I have heard of many people who have difficulty with HDMI. Seems to me you just have to use component. Between having a DVR that works, and not, I would choose to have a DVR that works. Sorry I am such a stubborn bastard.

Hi

No your not stubborn, I am. I was the kid that drove Mom and Dad crazy adjusting the TV for the right picture. Now in my older years, and my eyes getting bad, I at least can still see a difference. I am also a picky azzed satellite broadcast engineer, so this does not help the situation. I guess I will probably give in and go component again. I just went out a spent close to $80 dollars on an HDMI 6 ft cable.( Ampex) I had an older box that went bad due to some dopey programming update in their system which put the older box in some sort of loop that would not recover. That box did not have the HDCP protection. My last thing here besides going YPbPr is to possibly call in a favor and get the HDCP turned off. Besides they also have the component line protected on this box, for what ever reason they did that at the cable company. Yep, SOL here. I really don't like doing this, but I may buy a switch and stick it in line with the HDMI and see if it fools the box, I doubt it though. If it does not work I could always bring the switch back.

Thanks again
