I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300HD box with Comcast Cable (western CT). I recently just got a new Sony Bravia V3000 series LCD tv. I tried to connect my cable box to my TV using HDMI, but I get video and no audio.
I am aware of changing the settings from Dolby to Digital or HDMI, but I still get no sound no matter what setting its on. Ive searched this forum and I see its specific for each cable provider, so if anyone has a SA 8300HD cable box with Comcast cable and has audio through HDMI, PLEASE let me know how you got this working. Is this a firmware upgrade? I havnt upgraded the firmware in a long time and dont remember how to. I dont have surround sound so I cant use optical. Thanks in advance everyone. oh, and I know the cable and HDTV port on the TV is fine because I plugged it into my samsung upconverting DVD player and sound and video works fine. |

ahh yah i apologize. I wrote that in sort of a rush. I meant HDMI port, not HDTV port. And yes i do not have any additional audio options so all that was connected was the dvd player to the tv via HDMI and i got sound fine. Yet still no sound from the cable box when I take the HDMI from the dvd and hook it into the cable box. I see a picture but no audio.

I realize you want to use HDMI connections but have you tried component fcables rom the stb to the TV and an optical or coax between the stb and tv for sound? |

You need to go into the setting of your cable box and set the audio to HDMI.

There seems to be alot of misunderstanding here.
I was trying to make a point that my HDMI port on my TV works with no problem because I can get video and audio perfectly when using my DVD player, but when I take OUT the HDMI cable from the back of the DVD player and plug it into my cable box, I get video but no audio. I only have one HDMI cable for now (another is on its way). and @ dsskid, in my original post I mentioned that I have already tried what you suggested, and it did not work which is why I was posting this whole thread. thanks |

Sounds like you could use a firmware upgrade if available. I have a similar situation running my Samsung DTB-H260F HD tuner into my Panasonic CT-34WX54, no sound at all. When I run my Pioneer DV48-AV DVD player through the HDMI to the Panasonic, the sound works perfectly.

Ok, sorry to reopen this string but I'm having the exact same problem. I have the Scientific Atlanta box and am hooking it up to a Sharp Aquos 32" LCD tv. I have very nice picture, but NO sound. I've tried getting into the cable boxes menu but I do not see an option for "HDMI".

In case anyone else reads this thread and can't figure their issue out, you have to hit the "MENU" button twice quickly on the Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC cable box. That will bring up a secondary menu where you can follow the above and turn the "Audio: Digital Out" from Dolby to HDMI. GORGEOUS picture AND sound now!!!!!!
