Default Direct TV or Cable?

I have a new Hitachi 57" HDTV presently connected to my rooftop antenna. Our monthly telephone, dsl and cell phone from Cincinnati Bell is $139.00 total with all taxes. It never varies because everything is all you can eat each month.

Now, my question is would I be better off going with Time Warner cable, Direct TV or staying right where I am. I do not NEED cable or Direct TV BUT if I can get it all for the same price as Cincinnati Bell then I would.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Default Lots Of Channels

I had D* before i had HD. I like Comcast HD and particularly on demand. I think cable is better and in time there will be more channels. With an external box you can choose 720p from material which is 1080i. Cables packages would be competitive with the phone company. But you know your viewing. The picture quality of OTA antenna HD is great. If it is what you desire or you are on a budget you could do that. A TV with a QAM tuner or a cable card can get you basic cable HD. That is a budget option without the unsightly antenna. 720p and 480p are cutting edge Think about it. Have fun.

Why would you want to watch something in 720p when you can watch it in 1080i?

720p typically handle motion better than 1080i.

Directv boxes allow you to chose resolution and even allow one to put it on native so it automatically adjust between 480i and 1080i.

Cbl boxes have the same functionality. Keep in mind that no matter what you set in these boxes, your flat panel's video processor will scale the resolution to match its display.....720p, 768p, 1080p.

I prefer the choice of programming on Directv especially the sports and hd offerings.

-time warner is a work in progress in regards to hd programing.and who knows how long they will take to catch up hd programming wise.
-you already get your locals via antenna so that is not an issue.
-Direct tv install is free but there is a 2 year committment and upfront start up costs for tuners depending on what you need.

You can negotiate the equipment costs to some degree. call customer service ask for customer retention, be firm yet kind patient and haggle.

There are 2 packages with free hd progamming and hd dvr service from $54.99-59.99 per month. The prem. movie channels are free for 3 months.

I am not one who over analyses the costs . If I want something I purchase it. negotiate the start up costs for equipment and try to get some programing discounts say $10 more off per month for a year through customer retention at directv.

Default Bundle

I think most posters here are missing the point of the question...you have bundled services and are looking for something comparable. DTV doesn't offer phone or internet, unless they partner with a third party...and doesn't that sound like a headache. TWC is currently advertising a $99 package for TV (at least I saw the add during football games this weekend), internet and phone, not cell...but I think they are partnering with Sprint in some areas of the country for cell service. For me, internet speed (gaming) is the bigger driver when looking at these bundled packages, and dsl just can't compare to cable...but I understand this is a Highdef forum.

@OP: Comcast just started running adds in my area where they are offering the internet and digital phone portion of their service bundled for 49.99/mo with no time limit. Don't know if that helps or if they offer it in your area.

I recently switched from TWC to DTV. No more broken images and interuptions. Plus lots of HD. And they bundled through a deal with verizon. Check it out.

I agree with Rick0725. You can't beet the sports packages on D**. Mainly the NFL or Baseball packages. All of them to will provide you with HD channels.
