Default No audio with Comcast DVI / HDMI...

Recently bought Vizio 42" and have Comcast Motorolla HD box. Box has no HDTV out but TV does. Box has DVI outlet so I used DVI / HDMI converter (if you will) cable and video is great...problem is no audio. I connected Component and that gives me aud & vid but I prefer HDMI video quality.

I connected a digital optical from box to tv but still no audio.

Any ideas?! THANKS!!

Just a guess but on my Sony the optical is an output not an input so it wont work like you hooked it up.

Use the DVI/HDMI adapter for the video then take the stereo output from the box and hook it to an input on the tv for the audio.

Default DVI has no audio

DVI does not carry audio. Thats standard. Look and see if your tv has a digital input. Fiber optic or coax it would be better than analog. How about a DVI input? Too obvious i suppose. Have you looked in to upgrading the box to HDMI?

HDMI is not superior to component. For all intents and purposes they are the same except that HDMI is digital and component is analog. If your set is calibrated properly for all inputs, they should look the same or component may look slightly better as many here say including me.

Default I Like To Sit Close To The Screen

I love the look of component on my 29" lcd. The bed is not far, in my small room. A little further away from dads 30" lcd HDMI the HD picture is crisper with finer detail, better sense of depth. This is neglible to me. The SD in HDMI suffers less from the heavy compression of cable. This is more significant than the HD. Havent tried the computer with HDMI. My new video card can upconvert regular flat dvd, and other dvd to component, unlike the philips dvd player with HDMI.

So in a way HDMI and component are the same. You try both and see what you think looks best.

Default Audio Settings

In you audio settings there is a place to switch your output from HDMI to analog/rca, you need to have this setting on RCA not HDMI since DVI does not produce sound you need to run sound through RCA.
