Default Heard From Comcast Rep

I just heard from a comcast represenitive that Comcast plans to have all channels that they have now that are in analog and digital switched to HD by Feb 2009. That is in my market at least which is Fort Wayne, IN. (it seems to me that it sounds like a very tall order but thats what the rep told me).....yea and she told me to keep it a secret sooo....shhhhh

probably a case of someone not knowing what they are talking about. To the OP, the analog shut down in '09 has nothing to do with HD.

Comcast and Cox is doing that... I knew about this since May 2007, I had all those great techs, senior techs, superisors an etc.. all come out to tell me yes this going to happen. Well that's great for me with HDTVs will now all show HD on every channel. They already clean up the crap on OnDemand low end graphics looked awful on my HDTV but the last firmware update from them fix that!

From what I understand the mandatory FEB 09 digital conversion only applys to over the air channels, not cable.....am i wrong on that?

correct, you'll no longer just be able to grab channels over the air with an antenna. From what I understand though (and I may be wrong), cable co's can continue to broadcast analog through their system if they so desire.

Actully now that i think about it....if direct tv can whip out a hundred or so channels and verizon is saying that they will have over 200 channels by next year at this time then anythings possibile....its just a matter of money and we all know comcast has that....plus comcast stock has been on a slump for the past 20 months so I think in order for comcast to compeate with these new rivals they have to expand above and beyond what directtv and verizon is doing in order to stay on top

Well they told me by the end of the year.. I know on my route they're almost to me with the new fiber lines FIOS or whatever the large spool of cable is. Once that's completed I should be able to go all HD from 2 through 100 - then up to 900s. Right now the traffic is crazy with the large bucket drop and police to watch over him so no one hits the truck should be completed by the end of the Month. I'll report back when it's completed and let you know if this is going to happen as they say..

If the analog is gone so is my HTPC which would be a sad day for me..

In order for that to happen each individual channel would have to upgrade to an HD broadcast. Not gonna happen anytime soon, if ever.

FiOS is the name of Verizon's service, has nothing to do with Comcast.

Well lets see if it does or does not. I for one would like to see it happen? Last year I had 10 HD channels now it's almost 20 HD. The selection is crap. Today I had watch CBS The Price Is Right with Drew as the host boy it was awful with out Bob Barker.. HD it look better to watch it than on SD.

I was in CA back in 2006, I told the wife I could have met Bob Barker on TPIR and they would have said "tipstir" come down... Oh well .. Too late for that..

Yes I only get 2 through 99 PPV.. on the analog side.. That you can hook up to any TV with Cable Ready feature. The tuner cards can pick-up all the analog channels. The new dual ASTC NSTC can do both. I won't buy those until I know that I can view and record in HD.
