Default Checking for cablevison signal strengh

Is there anyway to check if you are receiving the best posible signal from Cablevision. I have a Scientific Atlantic HD8300 and it seems that there are times when the picture quality changes on the same broadcasts on HD channels at different times. Is there a way to check signal strengh short of having a tech come over. I hate to pay for a service call and have a tech tell me its ok. I swear that when they service somebody else in my apartment building the quality changes. I do get a good picture but i just want to make sure that i am geting the best that they have to offer. Iam using good HDMI cables and even have had the cable run from outside my window to the box changed when i switched to the HD box. Is there some way to go into a service menu that you can view what kind of signal you are geting.

Call them up and let them do the meter on the signal coming in from the outside. Stand out their with him or her that they send to you house. Complain like hell to get what you want. Since you already paying for their service. Get what you want and don't settle for "well we can't do anything right now, I got another call to go too" That's BS! Don't let them wiggle out.. You should be all zeros on the meter meaning you are okay. If you got -2 or anything else you got a problem in your lines.

This is not the right attitude. Be nice with the field tech and you will get more out of it. As a TW field tech, i just hate to see customer like you. With one nip of my cutter, your cable service will out for a few days (ofcourse we will come back and fix it) BUT you will have no service for a few days.

As for metter reading, please do not give out advice if you don't know anything about it. Video signal comes in 3 major channels: 02/13/78/109(for data)

02: 13-15db
13: 15-17db
78: 19-22db

Those reading are "ideal" stregth at "tab". Once it split out to your apartment unit, it will go down.
