I have been following the other forums and calling Comcast (almost stalking them). The date was the 12th... but they failed some testing and pushed it to the 26th... this is their "official" date... until they "officially" push it back again.

two of my cousin's work for comcast and I was talking to them on thanksgiving and they said they are nowhere near ready to push the tivo software out to the DVR's. Apparently its crashing almost everything they push it to, and if it does get pushed its not stable. I wouldn't hold your breath to see it anytime soon. Also if you do want it, you'll be paying the tivo fee along with your dvr fee. its kinda rediculous if you ask me.

Well someone will be eating their words next week.
Word on the street is that that TiVo service is just a couple of dollars more per month ($16.50/mo versus $14/mo), and that you pay that extra couple of dollars just once, for the service on all Comcast DVRs you have in the house. |

$14 a month for dvr service is highway robbery.

If you feel that way, then surely communicate that by doing without. Those that find DVR service worth what they charge can elect to subscribe to that service. And the market will determine whether the service survives.

Boy my words tasted like crap...
I did somewhat cover myself at least with the disclaimer "until they "officially" push it back again." God, I love Comcast... they are my favorite.

Stop wanting, and they'll stop charging.
![]() Note that "nickel and diming" is really not the issue. Charging a la carte for each service is a very sound practice. Indeed, many people want cable to change to a system whereby they charge individually for each and every channel, $3 for this one, $2 for that one, $4.50 for that one, etc., so that they are not "forced" to pay for channels they don't want, in the packages. Surely no one who will not have the Comcast TiVo service should be expected to subsidize those who will. Each subscriber who wants this premium service should expect to pay more for it. |

Any update on when this thing is going to roll out? Whenever I go to the link provided and check my area for availability, the page just hangs.

It is already rolling out. About a dozen communities so far have it available.

But they are test marketing it in Mass, right? That's why you have it's already in your area right or am I assuming you have it in your area?

No, the testing is over. It is officially being rolled out to customers.
They are not rolling it out to every customer nationwide all at once. There is significant work needed at every single one of the thousands of head-ends to support it, and they'll be upgrading each head-end in turn, and once all the head-ends in an area are upgraded, then customers in those areas will be offered the TiVo service. It's just like how they roll out new HD channels: One area at a time. |
