Default Charter out of HD Boxes

I called Charter yesterday to line up a HD Box, CSR told me on the phone to bring my digital box and just swap it out, drove 20 miles one way to swap out the box, waited in line for 10 mins and than was told they don't have any available right now and they don't know when they will have more, I asked to be put on waiting a waiting list, I asked how long the list is but the CSR couldn't look it up, needless to say I wasn't very happy, anybody else have this problem? I'm really thinking about going back to DTV

Red face Glad I wasn't the only one!

I had the same experience TWICE with Charter. The first time it was just to exchange my old digital box for one of the new ones. Made a 30+ mile trip one way to exchange the boxes, only to find out the office was closed! When I got home I called Charter, they told me the person I talked with first should have told me they were closed that certain day. Now, story #2! Bought an HDTV, so I wanted to swap my digital box for HiDef box. Asked if I could just take it to my nearest office and exchange it. Yup! Another 30+mile trip one way for nothing. Office was open, and was told they didn't have any boxes. said she called me when they came in. I waited a few days, called Charter. They then told me the local office couldn't give me a box. Needless to say, I was very upset. Wanted her to tell me why their service rep's lie to customers. I finally got my box, had to wait better than a week to get it.
The next time I call for service, I will call 2,3,4 or more times to see what kind of answer I get. I've found the later at night you call, the better chance you have of talking to a real person!

Wow you live in Rochester? This is the EXACT same story for me, I called again today and was told that I cannot pick up a HD box at the office so I have fork out an extra $20 so my neighbour can come over and hook it up, how hard can it be to hook up a HDMI cable?

I did set up an appointment with Charter to have a DVR installed, appointment window was from 8-12 on a Wednesday, the appointment window time went by and they didn't show up, I called Charter and spent an hour on the phone to tell me that there were still no DVR's available at that time, I did talked with a Manager and was told that they should have some in one to two weeks, it'll be two weeks tomorrow and I bet I will not hear from them, dish is starting to look very good right about now

All cable operators work the same way. It's not that Charter locally is out of boxes, just your specific Headend is out of boxes. This is quite understandable considering that it's the holiday season and everybody is getting new HD sets. Give them a few days to transfer STB around from the neighboring Headends and you'll be able to enjoy your TV.

The CSR you talked to may have checked inventory for the wrong HE. Each box is set to a specific HE for piracy reasons. Yes, cable CSR are a mixed bag. some are great, most aren't.

Relax a little, take a few days off from bashing your cable company.

I live in Two Rivers, WI. Went down to the office on 12-13-07 to get a HD box. The lady told me that they were out and would be getting some more the next week. She told me I was 2nd on the list and that they would call me. Been almost two weeks now and I haven't herd a word.
