Default Direct TV Has More HD - Time for cable to match

Yesterday (I believe) DirecTV just added 21 new hd channels including CNN, the history channel and A&E. Check the DirecTV website for details. To add insult to injury, DirecTV is planning on adding a bunch of additional hd channels through the remainder of the year. This is getting ridiculous for those of us who have cable. When I call my cable company (Time Warner) and speak to the mouth breathing morons at customer service, and after explaining to them what hd is, they respond that they have no idea when more hd channels will be offered. I think we all need to start immediately hounding our respective cable companies to match DirecTV and if they can't do it within a couple of months, to cancel our service. Cable has the technical ability to add new channels, they just don't want the added expense and will wait to see how many subscribers cancel before adding new hd.

Some of us cable folks have had those channels for awhile. Sorry that TW is lagging behind.

Time Warner doesn't care about hd,they only worry about digital phone.

Which is why I use them for phone and internet over my local phone company and use Direct for TV.

Also, a lot of the HD channels that are going to be added this fall are of only limited interest. Cable appeals to the mass market, and so only needs to add HD channels to the extent that the mass market wants them.

This is the reason I just got DTV and I am dumping Comcast. I actually lost channels when they switched from Adelphia. No ESPNU, lost HDNET and HDNET movies. Asked when we may get some new channels or even those back and of course the usual "We are always working to add more channels, keep tuned in" I am done tuning in, and went sat.

Default Hope someday TWC HD does match DTV HD

Well I was TWC's biggest fan until early this year when I found out about DTV's planned rollout of al the new HD channels at the end of this year. I had a very hard time convincing myself to switch to DTV, but with a push from a couple friends & then seeing that TWC was very hesitant on putting up the bucks for the MLB Package, I decided to go with DTV. The pq is better & the new channels are great with more to come. Plus there is NO tiers with DTV, TWC always had 1-2 channels on each tier I really wanted but it cost extra for EACH tier & I could never afford all that & I get them all on DTV.

Two more things that really irked me about TWC is that in summer 2005 when I got an HDTV I called & asked when are we getting ESPN2, they said definitely by 1st of the year. Well the time come & no ESPN2, called back & same old promises. Also here on TWC Cincinnati, they took away two HD channels, INHD & INHD2 without warning & no change in price, hence my change to DTV. I will say though if TWC would ever match DTV in HD channels I would seriously think of returning, but as of now TWC HD is a joke to me.

This is true. Most of the people, by a large margin, who use cable or satellite do not have HD service. Look at most of the dishes on peoples' roofs, they are overwhelmingly of the standard variety.

Or they may be a person like myself with HD cable service who left their dish on the side of their house after switching so the satellite solicitors don't come to my door.... that said, at least I have the not-quite-so-old 3 LNB dish which is old-school MPEG2 HD compatible.

I've never had a satellite solicitor come to my door. I've had trouble finding any who would be WILLING to come to my door (to talk about installation options) before me signing a contract.

That's the only reason I left the dish on my roof too. Heck my neighbor has been joking about putting one up just to stop them from stopping by monthly.

All interesting comments about TW. HD is way...way down the list for TW and that's not going to change at least according to my sources...In some areas like mine in the Los Angeles area they have actually deleted HD channels instead of adding them. As a prior poster said the digital phone service is the top priority with them and thats the way its going to be for quite some time....
