Default Comcast DVR Problem

Hi everyone .... Have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300 ... has been working great till 2 days ago.

The problem:
When trying to bring up "On Demand" it will show "Comcast" then after 20 seconds screen will go black and "boot" appears on the box and then it shuts down completely. When I turn it back on the "blue screen with scientific atlanta" comes on but does nothing.
Left it on over night thinking it would reboot itself but same problem appears this morning.
Called Comcast a couple of times but its always a wait and they tell you to call back.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Should I wait to talk to Comcast or just switch the DVR for a new one?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know what the problem is, but whenever I have strange issues pop up with my Comcast Motorola DVR I do a reboot. Do this by unplugging the box from the outlet for about 20 seconds. Then plug it back in. If this doesn't solve it, call Comcast.

Ok did that ... after reboot & retrying OnDemand received message "Advance Services are Unavailable At This Time". Am taking that to be a Comcast problem in the area so guess I'll hold off. Thanks for the help deadhead68.

I got an explorer 3250HD a few days ago and I had the same problem as you. I had to call a technician out who fixed it. He said it was some kind of coding problem I believe. You may have to get them to come out and fix it.

Wow, never heard of that one. I have a 3412 and have never had that happen. I have a Rush concert on mine from back in January. Sorry, can't help you with that one.

I have a 3416 and have had similar problems. Try this... next time you set up a record, or a series record, make sure to set it only to be deleted when you delete, as opposed to when it's full. I had trouble with my DVR deleting stuff on me, even though it wasn't full. I set all my series recordings to only delete when I delete them, and I haven't noticed this problem anymore.
