Default Time Warner Cable DVR Remote

I just recently got a dvr from time warner. It's the scientific atlanta explorer 8300. It has got the buttons for each device you want programmed. The first is the AUX, which is supposed to be for the receiver. On the old remote, the remote used for just digital cable, the button was listed as AUD and it worked for my DENON receiver. I cannot get the device programmed on the new remote. I try to store the 3 digit number and nothing works. There is even an auto find which does not work as well. If I use my upstairs remote (regular digital cable) to try to program it it works fine on number 133. All the other devices are programmed, tv, vcr, dvd, etc... The weird part is that when I do the auto detect it is turning off or on the vcr when the vcr's 3 digit number is hit. Does anyone have any clue if there is a way to program it to my receiver. And why it is programming the vcr. Thanks.

Are you sure you're programming the three digit code correctly? I was doing an experiment and kept having issues (remote wouldn't "take" the codes) until I slavishly followed the directions step by step. With the manual open! As soon as I started doing that, it worked as expected.
