Is there any way where I can increase the starage capacity of my DVR hard drive? i have read how i can record it on my computer, but is there any way how i can say hook an external HD to the drv? has anyone figured this out yet?

I have a new Motorola DCH3416 HD box with DVR. The box includes an eSATA and USB port on the back, and the Motorola instructions say these can be used for external storage. But Comcast says they do not support use of those ports.

Has anyone experimented with plugging an external drive into one or the other port? If they work, do they become added storage or do they duplicate the contents of the internal drive?

Do they need to be formatted in a particular way?

Any clever hackers out there?

Hi, I need some help. I would like to access the front or rear a/v inputs on my motorola dct6412 cable box. I have the user guide but I can't find out. I try menu and set-up etc. The button below number 7 for input tv/vcr. I just can't seem to "get her done". Thanks for any help., Stan

hi, my box autmaticly reads my outputs. I know because i went from hdmi wire to rca vid,audio wires. when i turned my tv on it was playing. make sure you don't have more that 1 output hooked to your box.

Those jacks are not supported. They are there for future use - what ever that means.

Thank you Lee. I kind of got a hint from the owners manual. They put stuff on the unit for future use. Since I couldn't find anyone to answer my question except for you, I was thinking that maybe that was the answer. I am going to try to use my Sony vcr in line with the comcast cable to input my vcr and dvd. It may work. I am using a 26 inch monitor for a tv on the comcast box. Simply because I made a nice oak cabinet for my hi-fi and a 21" Zenith b&w tv in 1967 and I just wanted to replace the space that my 25" Magnavox fit in with Hi-def. Went with Samsung 25.5" and it fits and works. All the tv's are too wide for my space in the 26" range. Got Bose computer 2 piece speakers for the tv and center for Home Theatre. They are great but keep the speakers to the front and not back in the box-too boomey. , Thanks again Lee, Stan

hi i have the switch Motorola Comcast DCH3200 HDTV i have a 42 in LG LCD, i was wondering why my picture looks so crappy, i have the hdmi cables and all that. my pictures look fuzzy, distorted, pixelly like, well i finally figured it's probably because my motorola box is reading 420i and 420p, i don't know how to switch this to 720p which is what my tv is? anyone know how to switch it from 420 to 720p. i hit the format button and it only switches up and down between 420i and 420p---both show crappy. I see a slot on the box that says 720 and 1080 but it only moves from 420, the picture looks worse than my old school tv.

Have you setup the box so it knows you have an HDTV? I have a DCT3412 DVR, so I'm not sure this will work on your DCH3200 but here goes.

With the TV power on, turn off the cable box
Push the menu button
Select 16X9 for your TV type
Select 720 in the HDMI settings
Press menu
Power on cable box

thanks for your response, i'm close to taking this thing back and getting another plasma. before i had a 32inch Vizio platinum with no problems. i wanted an lcd because the picture was a little brighter and i wanted a 42in tv. but this is becoming a hassle, with me adjusting sharpening settings some channels show lovely and other hd channels and regular channels show crappy (fuzzy or dark--colorless). my current settings.


16.9, 720p 4:3 overide is 480i, additional hdmi settings hdmi mode, i tried turning 3:3 overide settings off and 480p with no luck. thanks

On my Motorola 6412 box I have the both HDMI and the cable coaxial connected and working. I also have a digital coaxial cable connected to the SPDIF output for 5.1 audio to my receiver. All are working fine
