Default Cox Cable: Cable Box + HD Receiver

I recently got a really good deal on a 32" Syntax Olevia 332H HDTV. Although I knew the TV didn't have a built-in tuner, I purchased it anyways due to the fact that Cox uses a cable box.

In addition, I just bought a Samsung DTB-H260F Digital HDTV Receiver. My plan was to merely use this instead of the standard Cox cable box and utilize the HD abilities of my TV. This did not work. It displays on screen that for each channel has "Weak or Scrambled Signal."

Here is a diagram of the above setup:

After reading through the Samsung manual, I came across a section which showed a setup involving a cable box. I ended up with the same result as above.

Here is a diagram of the cable box setup:

Is my only option to use an antenna hooked up to the HDTV receiver and connect it to my TV via HDMI for the OTA HD channels while using my cable box connected to my TV via S-Video for the SD cable channels? I guess my goal is to avoid renting the HD DVR box from the cable company as it is really not my preference financially.

EDIT: Apparently I can't use IMG tags until I've made 5 or more posts on the site. The images have been attached.

According to this your Olevia 332H monitor has one HDMI input but it also has two component inputs.

Why not connect the tuner device with component cables to the Olevia and use a HDMI cable between the Cox STB and the Olevia? In other words dump the S-Video cable...

Are you using a SA 8300HD STB from Cox?

http://www.scientificatlanta.com/pro...fs/4003986.pdf

The 27 Meg Byte user manual. See help starting on page 14..

Cox help...

http://www.cox.com/support/oklahoma/.../8300HD/02.asp

If not what STB do you have?

If you want both Cox HD channels and OTA HD channels I see no way around not using the Cox STB in your situation, unless I am missing something...

Actually, I have the SA 2100 and therefore no HDMI or component output. I am trying to avoid getting the 8300 as they want $35 a month compared to $7 a month for the 2100.

I ended up buying an antenna and am using the HDTV receiver via HDMI for OTA HD channels and the cable box via SVideo for SD cable channels.

$35 A MONTH!!! Wow i have cox here in phx and pay 15 each for the 8300, and I have two... so i have to yet pay less for what you would pay for just one. Wierd I thought all cox prices were the same everywhere you went.

I assumed that the rate Cox charges was adjusted to reflect the local economy...?

We have the latest box from Cox New Orleans, and we're charged $9.99 a month for it. It's $6.99 without the DVR service, but we opted to go with it since we're hardly ever home.
