I have the SA8300HD, which is a HD DVR box. The problem is that the signal is 6 - 8 seconds delayed from the other cable signals in my home. This is a problem when watching sporting events, where we invariably have multiple TV's on. Brighthouse says it is because the DVR writes to the hard-drive first, thereby delaying the broadcast. Does anyone know of any work-arounds?

I have the same SA8300 box (just hooked it up yesterday) and I only get a fraction of a second delay between it and another TV we have hooked directly to the wall cable outlet (no box). The delay is barely noticable. The TV with the DVR is a Zenith projection, and the no-box TV is a regular CRT.
Maybe as we use it more, more of a delay will build up? I'll have to check and see. |

Let me ask if you are watching HD on one TV, and SD on the others. I find that there is a significant delay between the HD and SD versions of the same broadcast.
It is not box specific, since this was occuring before I got a DVR with just a regular STB. I can also see it on the same box, by switching between the SD and HD broadcasts. The HD broadcast is always running behing the SD broadcast - even using the same STB. It is quite freaky when talking with friends on the phone and both of us watching the same sporting event me in HD and him in SD). My friend wil cheer or groan about a play, while I am scratching my head. Then several seconds later I'll see what all the fuss was about.

There's a timing difference between the digital signal (other than OTA) and the analog signal. It applies to both digital cable and the satellite signals.

6-8 seconds is long.
Both with my 8000HD (DVR) and prior 3250HD, I would notice a second or less delay when switching sources back and forth between cable and OTA for a local affiliate's HD broadcast. |

I would assume there has to be a delay because its buffering the video so you can pause etc...

I don't have the HD DVR, but I do have the 510 SD DVR. I have found a 5 sec. differance between Dish and my local cable when watching one of the analog channels. Ch. 2 - 74 on my systems.
On the digital channels the wait lag time is only about a second. I cannot explain why the differance. One thing I have noticed with my cable system is there is almost a 4 sec. delay between the the Analog and HD signal for the same station. Steve

Try changing the channel and then changing it back. Sometimes I'll get a slight delay between the DVR box and non-DVR box, and it is usually resolved by flipping the channels. Or, impress your friends by sitting closest to the room and predicting what happens on the next pitch...
