Default Scientific Atlanta 4250HD

I have a Cablevision Scientific Atlanta 4250HD and one of the settings (I forgot, I'm at work now) is set for 'Fixed', the other options are Upconvert1, Upconvert2, & Auto. Is this the best choice? What do the choices mean? It's also locked on 1080i (I'll assume that's Ok).

I have the 3250HD, but I think the settings are the same for both boxes. Auto (passthrough on the 3250) means the box will not upconvert anything. Upconvert1 and upconvert2 will convert signals to either 720p or 1080i, depending on which one you choose.

If your box is "locked" to 1080i, that means the box was configured to only allow 1080i. You can change that if you want.

I have the 4250HD and the display always shows 1080i. How do I change this and which setting should I use?

I used to have the 3250, and it upconverted everything to 1080i. None of the four settings made any difference. My particular cable company had this box programmed this way. Five years ago I e-mailed my cable operator about this and the respondant had no clue what I was talking about. I did not pursue the matter.

You should contact your cable co about this. At this late date, somebody should be able to give you an intelligent answer. Meanwhile the TV's 'info' function should confirm the incoming resolution, and if the res is changeable, go for the res closest to your TV's native resolution.
