Default Does Comcast offer a HD box with HDMI w/o DVR?

I understand Comcast offers the Motorola DCT 6208 and 6412 HD DVR boxes and I gather they have a HDMI connection. Is there such an animal from Comcast as a plain HD box with an HDMI connection without DVR? I live in NJ and subscribe to Comcast and have a Sony XBR2 HD TV on order and was wondering what my options with Comcast were to get a HD box with an HDMI connection. Thanks

Capt:

Here in S. FL we have 3 options for HDTV:

1. HDTV STB - no recording - access to On Demand $6.95

2. 6412 - No HDMI recording - On Demand $10.95 + $6.95

3. 6412 - HDMI - On Demand $10.95 + $6.95

As I have been to the local Comcast store about 4 times in the last 45 days . . .and waited in line . . .if you ask for an HDTV box . . .they give you one of the 6412's.

If you specifically want one with HDMI as I did, I asked for it and got it.

If you specifically want the STB no records you also have to ask for it cause which would you rather collect as the provider . . .$6.95 for the HD service only. . .or $17.90 for both HD service and DVR service.

The first two operate from Component though I did see a DVI port on the back of the non-hdmi 6412 she first gave me when I asked for the HDMI equipped model.

Don't see it much different in other city's.

And then there is the 34XX series for all Digital service where the 64XX is Digital/Analog

Not HDMI but there is one with DVI output. You can buy a DVI>HDMI cable and it'll be basically the same thing as having a HDMI box.

Isnt the STb with the DVI the old box....can you still get that box? I had that box for a while before they offered DVR,then I switched it for a single tuner DVR HD box, again it had a DVI....but that was years ago.

Exactly. I live in south Jersey and have Comcast also. I did not want the DVR and was surprised that the standard Motorola HD box didn't have an HDMI output. Like Glow said however, just use a DVI-I/HDMI cable and you are good to go. The only advantage of HDMI over DVI-I is that HDMI connects the audio also.

They do exist in some markets, but are extremely rare. Right now, the best bet is to get the DVR box. Either that or get the DVI to HDMI and use Optical out for audio.
