Default Motorola 6412 DVR........Problem

I've had my Motorola 6412 DVR swapped out now about 4 times. Different problems everytime. These boxes SUCK.

My problem this time is the HDMI output does not work. I had my last DVR swapped out because it had lost ALL DVR functions. It worked as if was a regular DCT w/ no DVR capabilities. The box I had before, had the HDMI out put work fine.

When the Tech came out to swap it out, we never checked to see if the HDMI worked. We just hooked it up via Component & made sure the DVR functions worked.

Anyways I called comcrap & the rep. on the phone told me that they are having problems w/ HDMI outputs on the boxes & that the DVR I have now does not have an HDMI output. I told her that she was wrong & that the box I had before was THE SAME exact model as the one I have now.

Does anybody else use the same box as I have ? Motorola 6412 DVR ? Does the HDMI out put work on yours ?

I have no problem with HDMI on my Motorola 3416, and never had any problem with my 3412 or 6412 before that. I have read that there is a problem with DVI, with one specific version of the firmware, but the fix is being deployed, so if you have that problem it will go away soon.

My 6412 doesn't even have a DVI output. Only Component & HDMI. I've got someone coming out Tues. to swap the box out. I'll make sure that the HDMI is working before he leaves.

a teck from time warner is coming out to day to swap my 6412 ..out the first one made loud noises and got very hot ..the dvi never worked so i used component out ..now the secound box won't playback recorded programs ..it's missing the tools tab for in the main menu...seems like they are shuffling around refurbished junk from one costumer to another

I have the 6412 (and since you asked), the HDMI works fine on mine. Never had a problem with it............YET.

Edit: Sorry, but I THOUGHT I had a 6412. It's actually a 3412. That's what I get for having a thought.

I hope you get things sorted out.

I don't remember. I think the fix is already implemented. It is just a matter of when any one specific cable head-end decides to deploy it.

Thumbs up

Well they came out to replace the box. The tech that came over was a buddy of mine. He said that right now w/ the upgrade going on in my area it's a hit or miss, if I get box that has the HDMI output working.

I decided to wait. They actually did work on my street today. Cable & Internet were off & on ALL DAY, sometimes off for a few hours. I'm just so happy that they are FINALLY upgrading our out dated , cable system here. Looked outside & they spliced in a brand new tap.

When they do launch my area , I will go in & swap my box out for a Motorola 3412, that I know for sure has the HDMI output working. Also I will get the SD channels, upgraded to the ADS lineup.

Can't wait for my area to be launched . Right now I'm only getting about half the channels that others are getting, in surrounding cities.
I'll be able to get more premium channels & more HD channels.

Default I also have problem with my 6412 DVR

Hi,
I also have problems with my Motorola 6412 DVR (with DVI connector). When I got my first box, it worked flawlessly. Then on or around Nov. 15, 2006 it stopped working. All of a sudden the screen began to alternate between a good picture and then a screen full of static (1 second of good picture, 4 seconds of static) continuously. I called Comcast tech support and they sent a technician to my house. He determined that my HDTV monitor was bad and charged me $17 for the house call. My monitor came with my PC so the next day I called HP (Hewlett Packard) and explained the problem since the monitor was still under warranty. They told me to connect the monitor to my PC via the DVI connection to see if that worked. I did this and it worked fine proving that there was no problem with the monitor.

The next day I again called Comcast tech support and this person told me to replace the box and that they would reverse the $17 charge (which they finally did). I went to my local Comcast store/office and got a new 6412 DVR (DVI connector). When I hooked it up to my monitor, same thing. Good picture then screen full of static. I then proceeded to replace this box with another (same kind). This box had the same problem. I then called Comcast tech support again and this time talked to someone who told me that the firmware upgrade that they did on Nov. 15 (new Program Guide) was the cause of the problem (effecting both DVI and HDMI connections) and that Comcast was working together with Motorola to issue a fix and that it would be a hight priority to get it fixed. In the meantime the tech told me to connect the 6412 DVR to my monitor via component cables. I explained that my monitor did not have any other inputs. Only DVI and/or VGA.

Long story, short. As of this date (1/24/07) it still has not been fixed. I have missed all football games in HDTV since Nov. 15 as well as other HDTV programs. I am watching programs on my standard television. Comcast cannot give me a date for a fix. I did get them to give me a credit for the months I have not be able to get HDTV reception. But I would much rather have my HDTV.

Just this week they did some upgrading in my neighborhood. They sent a notice around that on or about Feb. 14 we will be getting "On Demand" (finally) and a bunch of new channels (both regular and HDTV). If they have not resolved the problem by that time, I am going to return the 6412 DVR and consider going to Dish Network or Direct TV.

That's good that you have them giving you a credit. Make sure that you keep on them until it's fixed. If you could try to get a Technical Supervisors phone #. There is a problem w/ DVI & HDMI like I stated before.

What are do you live in ?

They are also upgrading our service here where I live. Today I just the new channel line-up.

They will be adding about 5 more SD channels,7 HD channels , about 60+ Digital Channels( depending on what Digital Package you have) & Also On-Demand.

My area will be launched on Feb. 21st.

Can't wait. Long overdue
