As I mentioned in another forum: I wouldn't switch if I were you. There are as many complaints about Dish Network as any other provider -- you could be spending a lot of money up-front just to jump from the frying pan into the fire.

You don't spend a dime up front for Dish Network as part of their new customer promotions. Starting in Feb. that will even include their 622 dual HD DVR.

I dumped Charter for Dish 5 months ago and haven't regretted it, at least yet.

I had Time Warner in another city 7 months ago and at least in that particular market they blew Charter away in EVERYTHING. Digital Phone and Internet were better, DVR was cheaper, HD was cheaper and more HD channels PLUS Charter was more expensive here! Paid more got less, switched to Dish - it's all been good.

Ice,
Yes I do think Dish PQ is better in HD and SD than Charter's. For one thing Charter cable as most cable providers if not all, still use analog even with "Digital Cable." Satellite, whether it's DTV or DN, SD channels are going to look better in most instances than cable. There are exceptions and the quality still pales in comparison to HD but to me PQ is much better with Dish Network.

I noticed something strange when I had TW in the past. With Digital cable channels 2-99 or so looked how they always have looked in the past, then once you got above 100 the PQ on SD channels really improved. I finally figured it out that it was the analog tier that had poorer PQ than the Digital tier. In September of 2005 with Hurricane Rita our local CBS affiliate was broadcasting hurricane coverage around the clock. So, they moved the regular primetime programming to one of their other Digital channels which usually just broadcast a weather radar. The PQ was excellent on this channel whereas normally it was only o.k. on the analog tier. That is how I feel about the SD channels I receive now, they have better PQ than the analog tier I had or Digital even with Charter.

My charter is same thing.. my channels now from 1-99 look horrific.
I mean they use to look much better when i had the regular digital box..but now that i have the hd box..looks worse.
The thing is..yes my 1-99 channels are analog..and the quality is more horrid..picture quality is grainy..the colors look very whashed out, and i think digital channels don't look too good for me...they look horrific with my new receiver.

I am looking towards Dish Network more because they are offering the ViP 622 for free when i get it on February 1st...but i am also looking towards DTV..it seems DTV quality on HD and SD is superior to Dish Network..now i had Dish Network few years ago around 2003...well the quality back then was great compared to cable tv...I don't know how Dish Network is now..but i hope for the love of god..they are better than Charter...i mean i couldn't watch UHD tonight (movie Empire on HD)...the movie kept freezing up every 10-20 seconds for like 1-2 minutes..no comments..plus by the time charter picks up the phone the movie would be already over.

I am attracted to DTV since they got 2 new sats going up soon and that means more channels and probably more bandwidth + better quality PQ...i dubt Dish Network will be able to match with DTV since Dish ain't got new sats going up soon..plus i did some research myself and it looks like our friend Charlie looks towards quantity over quality...id rather go with quality over quantity if you ask me. and looks like DTV Local HD channels are free in my area..without spending an additional 5.99$.
But i don't know whats the deal with Dish Network..will they keep adding more channels and sacrifice PQ? or they will actually look towards quality one of this days..plus looks like DTV HD channels are cheaper too..they may have less channels..but hey..quality is what im looking for..

Atm the 622 offer is really addicting..id rather save 200$...i dubt quality will degrade on Dish too much..
Does DN have any plans to get more sats up anytime soon? and improve PQ?

I have Charter and am experiencing the exact same problems with channels under 100.
Just had a digital/HDTV box installed saturday. Used on-line chat to ask about the clarity/quality of the non-digital channels and they sent a tech out. For $20 I got a new piece of coax. I'm about to come unglued......Charter is my only cable option where I live, but the other side of town has a choice and folks I know there say Knology is better.
I'm not sure what to do....
