Default Charter St. Louis no CBS HD

Charter Communications and KMOV-DT were unable to reach financial agreement so Charter has pulled the plug on CBS HD.

Charter should have done what DISH and DirecTV did and integrate an ATSC tuner into their HD cable boxes.

I do think it is funny that KMOV is wanting a fee for something they broadcast OTA for free. Charter and KDNL-DT (ABC HD) have never reached an agreement for Charter to broadcast ABC HD.

If they send the same people for negotiation that they have used with Sinclair (ABC) looks like channel 784 will be dark for a while.

Default beat me to it

from my other forum

CBS is behind the times

ever notice they will not play 2 HD football games the same day

most of there other shows are still are not in high def.

and there lineup is a joke

well here is the cherry on top

(by the way i live in st louis, and have charter HD package)

not sure if this is just a st louis thing or worldwide

but here is the jist of the letter:

dear charter HDTV Customer,

it is our goal to continually provide you with the best and latest in entertainment tech. and value

Belo Corp. is one or our HD signal providers who currently provides the CBS feed in your area. Belo demanded that charter comm. begin paying them a fee for the stations HD signal, which broadcast over public airwaves for free. Charter believes that making customers pay extra for local HD channels which are publicly broadcast for free is not serving the publics best interest.

Charter does not want to remove any HD channels from your lineup, but we have been instructed to do so by Belo Corp. as of jan 4, 07. For this reason, your HD programming lineup will exclude CBS HD.

and blah blah blah......

so who should we be pissed @ CBS or Bela Corp

well instead of chosing who is the worst bad guy in this situation
im going to go after both of them

i am already fed up with charter for numerous reasons
cbs is a freaking joke of a network
and bela corp sounds like a cheap money grubbing company that didnt realize how many football fans are going to be pissed of today cause there will be no more high def football for the rest of the season.
(@least in st louis area) and i know satillite cbs also sucks

so if u are as pissed as i am and want to let it out

here ya go

but when i get a bill for over 100 a month in services
i expect things to get better over a period of time
not get worse
and cbs and charter have gotten under my skin in a bad way

Belo also owns our CBS station here in New Orleans, and they're pulling the exact same crap here as well.

In fact, Cox doesn't even carry CBS HD as part of their normal HD lineup. The only local channel carried here is ABC HD. But I digress.

The best part about this whole Belo argument, is that Cox is threatening to remove our CBS affiliate completely unless they get what they wants.

We're talking about losing a good number of subscribers here, plus our CBS newscasts are some of the highest rated in the nation. Not only that, but the local station also devoted a channel to running the latest newscasts 24 hours a day, and Cox is threatening to yank that right off the air if they so choose.

Anyway, my point is that this whole Belo situation affects the entire nation, mainly any city where Belo owns a station... so I definitely feel your pain.

Sinclair in St. Louis has been trying to get Charter to pay for HD since they started to broadcast in HD. They have never come to an agreement. Belo is just trying the same thing with Charter. Still no Superbowl in HD again

Can you imagine if they pull CBS before the Super Bowl with the Saints in it?

I think Cox would lose half their business

I personally find that CBS has the best HD of all teh networks. They typically broadcast 3 HD football games on Sunday while FOX does 6. CBS needs to get on the bandwagon as far as that, but most of their prime time shows are in HD. They have the largest lineup by far of any other network.

http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5119938-1.html

Prime-time shows:
1. The Class;
2. Close to Home;
3. Cold Case;
4. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation;
5. CSI: Miami;
6. CSI: NY;
7. Criminal Minds;
8. Ghost Whisperer;
9. How I Met Your Mother;
10. Jericho;
11. The King of Queens;
12. NCIS;
13. The New Adventures of Old Christine;
14. Numb3rs;
15. Out of Practice;
16. Shark;
17. Smith;
18. Two and a Half Men;
19. The Unit;
20. Without a Trace;
21. The Young and the Restless (daytime);

Why OTA is a far superior picture in HD to what cable brings you.

In my dire attempts to see what avenues are available to catch the Super Bowl in HD I found this thread. I am happy to find that there are others venting about this subject as well.

I am in Covington, LA and received the same letter from Charter regarding CBS HD. Needless to say I was P!SSED!. We were going to finally have a Super Bowl in HD which meant that we were ecstatic about this. To have this opportunity taken away so abruptly was very aggravating especially when there is a great chance that the Saints will make it to the big show

Now I have fewer HD channels BUT I am still paying the same premium price for cable service. However, since I received the letter I have settled down some since Cox is threatening to remove CBS as well as the local NBC (WDSUs website had information about this last week) station from its lineup. It looks like it is going to be a messy situation.

Since I see a couple of members on this thread posting from the New Orleans area I’d like to ask for advice regarding the best way to pick up CBS OTA. I don’t know if I am going to have the opportunity to pick up an antenna to mount outside right now so I may have to try the attic. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

So I've heard, but I can't put an antenna on my apartment's balcony.

That, and my apartment faces north.

Have you tried a set of nice rabbit ears? I used a set of them before I put up my corner reflector in the attic.

It's worth a shot.

Where can I buy them, and where can I put them?

Radio Shack makes a good set of rabbit ears. Place them anywhere you want. I gather your set has a built in ATSC tuner.
